Come and share stories of....[injuries]
injuries! We get them and we all have them. I was going to say just Martial Arts but what the hell, why not all active related.
Anyway, I'm doing this cause I'm currently at work with a swollen/sore toe and bruised knees, because....
Last night in my martial arts class, we do warm ups and during our floor excerise/stretches I caught my toes on the mat in a funny way (can't remember cause I just walked it off) but it got progressively worse over time. So that's the sore toe
Then in the advanced class, they had me practicing Tornado fall, for those who aren't familar with the term or technique, basically you are doing a flip flip with only one leg (in this case right) and then twisting using your back leg to land on your side. Well I was slowly getting there and got some good kudos then as we all do, I was tired. Well the last one I did, I landed funny and my knees clapped together and they are really sore today.
They aren't major issues at all, just irritations. Also one time about 2 years ago, I was sparring with someone and I proceeded to do a front kick (thought i was fast) and he just guarded by putting his knee up and I cracked all but my big toe on his shin. Yeaaaa, that hurt for the next 5 or so months. Also another one, has to do with front kicks, this happened the following semester (cause at the time I was in school) in our dorm we bunked our beds and I was on top. Well this dorm is completely made of brick, those big ones paged white. Old building. Well I was close enough to the ceiling that I could sit on my bed without touching the ceiling with my head. So one morning while I was dreaming, I was fighting someone and since I liked front kick so much, I did so to my attacker with the intention of kicking the balls and so I used the instep part of my foot (which I'm glad I did). Well at this time I was on my back with my right foot on the bed and my knee pointed to the ceiling. When I kicked the guy I had a great pain afterwards. I think I stopped dreaming and later when I woke up I was sore. The ceiling has major hard balls.
Funny thing is I wasn't injured really, I was fine later in the day.
Ok I'm done.

Those were funny. ^_^
Well, I've never broken a bone or anything, but here are some funny stories...
In kendo class, we were practicing parries with our shinais(Bamboo stick things for sparring) and I suck at blocking. The person I was with, had really sucky aim, too, so that didn't help.
ANYWAY, She was aiming for my heart, I didn't put enough strength into the parry(or something along those lines) and the kessin(leather tip of the shinai) somehow ended up in my right eye.
Ow.
Luckily, I was wearing glasses, so that must have slowed down the shinai some... Although, it still eludes me how the shinai went UNDER my glasses and into my eye.
Even the memory is painful.
I've been more careful with my defences since then.
When I was about 12, I loved roller blading. And I loved going fast. So I intentionally sought after really steep driveways to roll down.
I found one incredibly steep driveway(not that tall, but practically straight down. 0o) So I decided to try my hand at it. I started close to the curb, and when I got used to the speed, I gradually moved(in incriments) until I started from the top.
Well, once I started from the top of the drivway, I somehow fell on the way down and completly tore the skin off my left knee. I stopped rollerblading for about a month, until it healed.
When it did heal, I went back to that driveway. I was going ot get my revenge! But somehow I fell, and completely tore the skin off my OTHER knee. So much for revenge. =\
On my 14th birthday, I got a unicycle. I actually wanted one, and so as soon as I got it, you know I was going to learn how to ride it.
The thing about Unicycles is, if you mess up, you can just put your feet on the ground and the unicycle will fall-- but you won't.
So, completely sure that I was going to be fine, I started off on the unicycle, made it a few feet and BAM! I fell over, but on my hands. The force was completly absorbed by my right arm, and I sprained my tendon. It was so weird. It was like I didn't have an arm for a few minutes. I tried with all my might to move it but nothing happened. My arm was really sore, and had trouble moving it for a week or so. Sad thing was, I'm right handed, so that completly sucked.
But regardless, 5 months later, I can ride a unicycle, and you can't! =p

My latest injury:
A dislocated finger on my left hand. I was sparring with a few friends back home (no protection, none of us own any), and one of them got a bit too caught up. He did a... straight (frontal?) kick, very fast and very hard. Since the master had said we were supposed to go light, he caught me off guard, and dislocated my finger. Looked real nasty too, all twisted in weird angles.
Anyway, as soon as I saw my hand, I relocated the finger by myself. Luckily the bones were fine, but the joint is still swollen (2 months later, jeez). I got almost all of my mobility back by excercising it a lot, but the slight swelling may never subside.

I like bugging people. Deal with it.

Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

That reminds me of a story, I didn't get hurt but my friend did. I've never rollerbladed before but my friends were so I decided to try. It was 3 of us and one was pretty good, the other was starting out but better then me and I sucked so I didn't try anything too difficult. Well after a while we got to this long hill, it wasn't really steep but it was long. so I hop over into the grass and started walking down. Well the one friend who was good, was way ahead of us I had went down before my other friend. Well my other friend started down the street and passed me. Then I saw it, even before it happen, right near the end of the hill BAM! on the ground. Well that wasn't the completely funny part, so I at that moment was concerned cause he hit pretty hard. So I hop off the curve and kinda coast down past him and yell "I'll be back!" (because I didn't know how to stop myself). After I slowed down I took the skates off and put my shoes on (that I was carrying). And yes I know I could have done that before, but I wasn't thinking just reacting. Well my other friend who was like 3 blocks away, saw me trucking up the hill and came back. My friend was fine, just skinned his knee and leg. It was sore afterwards. We've all laughed about this since then.SQ wrote:Those were funny. ^_^

Once I was waiting for my turn on our go-cart and I was waiting in the road. So my brother is speeding towards me and I am standing there waiting for him to slow down and not hit me. Well he kept going fast and straight at me. At the last minute I jumped to the left off the street, but he also turned right off the street (I guess he was gonna go around me) anyway I get hit and when I wake up I am in the ditch with a broken arm. So yeah thats my broken bone story.
