Disposable DVDs being tested right now.
I'm sure everyone's heard of Disney doing that disposable DVD thing where after you open the case, the DVD only has 48 hours until the bottom of it goes black and is unreadable and will never play again.

This is probably what disney is trying to get money from.angelx03 wrote:but in the long run the DVD content will expire thus making the person buy MORE DVDs.
I can't wait for this thing to go through so disney will be flooded with millions of complaints.

I'm sure the Flexplay DVD can be defeated... some grad student or researcher at a polytechnical institute or university is probably going to be DMCA-sued to telling people how.
"The DVD's shielding material prevent activation of the process. It is possible to simulate the shielding material using a gas or fluid. In a lightless, oxygenless nitrogen room, place the DVD case in XYZ chamber and use needles to slowly fill the case with ABC. Open it up and place it into the JKLMNOP thing you made... then add the waterpoof motor and special 230nm waterproof blue laser to read the disc under these conditions. Simple, really!"
"So why don't we just copy it, Wang Daniel?"
"That defeats the whole purpose! We're doing it just to beat the DRM and show that it's possible!"
"But it costs so much money for these chemicals and special lasers..."
"Theoretically, with loads of this stuff, we could pirate HUNDREDS of titles!"
"But you could copy it!"
