IM, it's closer to phone, which is closer to real. email is closer to mail which is closer to email which is closer to IM which is closer to phone which is closer to real.

Well for actual discussing I prefer E-mail because you can think more about what you write... but just for teh chat IM is always better... and I pity PM...
