Windows Dot Net Gundam - Hiberfil.sys, Debug, etc

Post by danielwang » Mon Jul 21, 2003 11:35 pm

A question...

I tried querying search engines for "+hibernation +flag" "+msde +debug option", etc... and asked the Microsoft newsgroups.
I am also in the process of using disk imaging to solve these problems... but it's easier if someone knows.

What file does Windows use to flag states such as "Setup on first boot" and "Hibernate"? I'm not talking about the BIOS hibernate - the Windows one. Apparently it writes a hiberfil.sys file and does something with the ntldr config...

What does Visual Studio do to Windows to enable advanced debugging? Windows Explorer does something when a error occurs - pops up a box saying "AppName has encountered an error and needs to close..." as in Mac's "The application AppName has unexpectedly quit". Microsoft Development Environment has a way of intercepting quits and launching the Debug codebox. If there was only a way to keep the error interception without installing Visual Studio.

We're still trying to rewrite and compile KDE using Cygwin... if we can replace Explorer as a shell (or even better, have both) it'll be a blast. No dynamic startup movies... ntoskrnl is too packed.
The question is, why don't we just use something open source?
Windows .NET Gundam.
Helping people disguise Windows as Linux. Or Mac.
