I'll start off by saying that I was right about Bulletproof Monk. Vis-a-ves, I am right about the Hulk, end of story. Anyway, I saw The Hulk, surprise, surprise. Of course, it was an unfinished version of the film; edited, but not all the sound effects nor all the special effects were fully completed. Therefore, this is a slight biased review; I will return with my final review of the finished version in theaters... if I feel like it.
So let's get to the meat and potatoes. Being a film about the Jolly Green Giant who wears magical expanding pants that smashes things, I expected a movie with said "hulk", well, smashing a lot more things. But what came out was ultimately an artsy intrepretation of the title character's alter ego, Bruce Banner, becoming The Hulk and having to deal with all the things that came with being The Hulk. A huge snore fest, I know. The movie starts off well enough, with the signature CG intro about DNA, which every other recent comic book movie has started out with. It then tumbles through a lengthy intro of the characters and their motives, which I'll admit, wasn't too bad. A few things happen, Bruce turns into the Hulk and starts smashing things. Cool.
But then the movie takes a dive into more boredom at the end, where we are treated to an unsatisfying end "fight" (the quotation marks denoting that it wasn't a fight at all) and then Eric Bana (as Bruce Banner) saying "You're making me angry... you wouldn't like me when I'm angry." in Spanish. Seriously.
I could just say, "yay, Hulk, smashes things, some weird artistic choices in an action film, but HULK SMASH!", but I won't do that. Sure, the Hulk bashes things good, but somehow it is all very unsatisfying. Maybe it's because we don't really feel like the Hulk is in any sort of real trouble when he goes against helicopters, tanks, and a scrawny little white guy. Ya. I think that was it. Even when the Hulk was buried under rocks, or when he was about to get stabbed in the eye by the aforementioned white boy, we don't feel a sense of urgency commonly felt watching action flicks. There is no real danger, no real conflict.
That, I think, is where the movie fails to entertain. But of course, the Hulk does stick his hand down a hulk dog and then proceeds to smash it on the ground, so I'm torn.

Eric Bana was Hoot. That's all I need to know.
I'd also like to be enlightened as to how you had the opportunity to watch an uncompleted version of the film. Just to sate my rabid curiousity. All decent reviewers should at least state the process: that they got into a early press screening...bought a DVD from a shady guy in an allyway.
...you know...to remove suspicions from a doubting public.

job in anime store opens up many possibilities. suffice it to say that i get bored at work, and watching the latest "imported" movie is better than having the boss catch me snoozing on the job.
