Last Comic Standing

If reality shows were all this good than we wouldn't have to groan everytime we heard about yet another reality dating show. Unfortunately, they aren't, but Last Comic Standing is excellent.

It's a cross between American Idol and Big Brother, except with people that actually have a sense of humor; and wicked ones, at that.

The first two shows detail the semifinals on each US coast, where 70 semifinalists competed for 20 spots in the final to be held in Las Vegas. They were given 3 minutes to do their best act.

Having watched the first two episodes, I can already appreciate the amount of comedic genius that is apparent in almost all of the competitors. Finally some one, who just happens to be Jay Mohr, has combined stand-up with the reality show, 2 of my favorite types of comedy. You never can be sure how much of it is an act, or how much of it is for real.

Once the 10 winners of the Las Vegas final are chosen, they then move into a house together, where the only way to oust someone and to get ousted is by challenging another comedian to a stand-off, where persumably us the audiences gets to pick who stays and who goes.

This is like American Idol but better. It has its shares of freaks and weirdos, except they're funny. Watch it.

Tuesdays, NBC, 9pm.
