Bush's anouncement
here we go...
48 hours until war will start, just great... NOT
all the while suddam will not move at all, what is it with bush?
"we are a peaceful people" yeh sure!, he's the one who is starting the war..
I knew he was going to do this... 2 weeks ago I said he would and now he has...
I just hope that our parliment here in Australia is smarter than that...

I'm not exactly sure how the Australian system works, but hasn't your PM already promised military support of some kind? I know Australia has troops already stationed in the Middle East, so it seems like a forgone conclusion that they'll probably be operating in some capacity with the Americans and British.Deaths_ally wrote:I just hope that our parliment here in Australia is smarter than that...

yeh he has.. but our parliment has to agree before he can do anything.. and a large number are opposed to the war, a majority of them if i'm correct..earthcurrent wrote:I'm not exactly sure how the Australian system works, but hasn't your PM already promised military support of some kind? But...I do think that there should be a regime change in Iraq. In fact, if they were going to just go bomb Saddam's palaces and kill only the politics, I would be all for it. Nothing like freeing an oppressed people with the embrace of a bomb

So, if the rest of the world hates us, if a world war really does start because of us...we'll only have ourselves to blame. Hopefully I will be wrong but I know that though there may be world leaders ready to back Bush, many many people around the world will look at us even more as a bully nation, an aggressive, dangerous super power teeming with nukes and bombs. Surely...this isn't the key to ending terrorism....

All I can say is, I've been expecting something like this to happen for weeks, and finally it did. Expected it from a country where the average dumbass is in a full-fledged anti-terrorist paranoia. Now this sort of thing happens. War is just not the answer to anything. The only thing being accomplished by things like these is to undermine the same rights they say they are trying so hard to protect. People being singled out because of the race they were born with, for one. People being singled out for the religion they practice, for another. It scares me, particularly because I see this affect the people I care the most for.
I've lived here in the US for less than a year, and have enough of a mind to not be affected by useless propaganda and shameless commercialism passing as "patriotism". An aunt of mine, hovever, has been living here for over 15 years, has a typical "american" family, lives in a house in the suburbs, is a grade-school teacher. Several months back, I heard her say that she would not want to have an arab child in her classroom. I was dumbstruck at the time. A war will only magnify the existing fears, especially if the other side decides to strike back. Soon, not only arabs, but foreigners in generall will be discriminated against, religions will be despised, and the freedom you value so much will be diminished.
War sucks. The more you know about combat, the less likely you are to hurt someone. No one hates war more than soldiers. What does that tell you, hmm?
...oy that was longer than I expected....

Re: Bush's anouncement
holy hell. i laughed when he said that part too. it's like we are a peacful people. then i'm like yeah that's why we're invading. in truth there's no such thing as peaceful people, the only one's who are peacful are the nations not powerful enough to do something. in reality, this is what humanity is, we all come down to being war makers and killers. not much else to say about that. i just wish for once we'd get a president who has the balls to say, it doesn't matter what the general population thinks because in the end it's the governments word to go and invade whoever the hell we want. nobody would like him but i'd sure as hell respect him.Deaths_ally wrote:here we go...

on a side note before i start ranting more. i don't know how many soldiers you know banana, but in reality the vast majority of soldiers i know yearn for war, especially the seasoned ones. hell my own retired father would be signing back on asap if it wasn't for the fact that he was disabled.
anyways, in reality my view on war is yes it's ugly but at the same time i think every generation needs a good war. it'll keep people in perspective. maybe eventually if we fight enough the future generations will finally realize how stupid it all is. bush wants him to disarm and crap right, but what incentive is there when every other country will have arms, oh but they should just listen because look who we are? how does a baby civilization turn into such an asshole one? don't get me wrong i like living in the US and all, and i realize how much better we have it than others, but sometimes i just think about all the things america really stands for rather in the past where it stood for freedom and rights and it makes me sick. i need to go form my own country. Sayonara.
Fighting weak oponents leaves me feeling so empty inside.
