How to install codecs?

Post by Anime Jedi » Mon Mar 03, 2003 5:58 pm

A vid says it needs the newest Xvid codec. So I go, and download it. All is going fine. But can I install it so I can watch the vid on the Windows Medioa player? It's not like DivX where it comes as an executable. :(

XviD is distributed as source code. Go get a compiler and linker.

There are some people who provide binary packages; do a search for "Koepi" "XviD".

If that doesn't work for some reason, there is a link in AD's and Ermac's guide to take you to Koepi's to get the newest binary. :?

Anime Jedi, Koepi's page has links to precompiled codecs for windows.

http://roeder.goe.net/~koepi/

I have yet to find an XviD encode that can't properly be played back with
"Nic's latest standalone decoder DirectShow filter _only_",
available from Koepi's XviD page.

If you actually want to do XviD encodes, I suggest getting the latest development binary.

Hope that helps.

Sounds perfect! Thanks everyone. It works nicely now. I needed it to be able to watch The Mission: Improbable project. ^_^
