I think that I may be able to set this debate to rest (even though they have stopped posting).
Kingdom hearts is an RPG because it has several elements of an RPG.
It has a relatively involved storyline, characters that do things, many different options for equippment, level gaining, and the most important one: combat is not the main focus of the game.
The Zelda series are not RPGs because they contain almost no elements of an RPG. Sorry, but gaining hearts is not even close to similar to gaining levels, and just because he can upgrade to the Master Sword does not mean he can customize his equipment, nor does the Hookshot count as equipment; it is a tool. Combat is the main focus of the game because there is nothing else to do besides playing a few minigames. The combat does not drive the story because the story does not drive the game. [/b]

You're right....it's not an RPG...It's an Action/Adventure RPG -_-;still that dosent make it and rpg by buying equipment and weapons, and i hope you think when you fight a boss any way man, think good ol classis ness or be up to date lke Suikoden or Suikoden 2 , Chrono Cross, Chronon Trigger, Persona, Persona 2, you see
And after much thought, I agree that Zelda is in no way shape or form a so-called RPG (using a frame of refference term since technically most games are actually 'role-playing' games) and is purely action adventure.
Banjo Kazooie is essentially a Zelda-like game. You gain life, abilities, moves, etc. But is it an 'RPG', nope.
