I always wonder why people think A) cloning is so powerful, or B) cloning is so dangerous, as it could be "abused" by groups like these. First off, it's not an infertility cure, as the process for cloning animals is INCREDIBLY wasteful. You have to waste hundreds of egg cells for a successful implantaion. If anything, it practically requires excessive fertility on the part of the mother. Second, it's STUPIDLY expensive, as demonstrated by their fee. Let's say you want a legion of loyal followers for some purpose or another in your cult. Your options are A) spend billions on the cloning techniques or B) get your cultists pregnant. You still gotta raise the kids whichever method you choose. The second one is a hell of a lot more fun. The only practical uses for cloning are as a research aid into gene identification and expression, and some metaphysical ego-trip by the rich and bored (see "The Boys from Brazil").
Of course clones would be people. Identical twins are already clones of one another, and there doesn't seem to be any debate on that point.
Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if this group had accomplished this trick, as it only requries a hell of a lot of money and a hell of a lot of patience, or a hell of a lot of luck. 'course, I wouldn't put it past 'em to just say "fuck it" and lie, either.
Some of the clone defects (which no one has a good explanation for yet) are: Severe obesity, premature aging, and premature arthritis.

Als Gregor Samsa eines Morgens aus unruhigen Träumen erwachte, fand er sich in seinem Bett zu einem ungeheueren Ungeziefer verwandelt.

People seem to have the benefits of human cloning confused with science fiction films. The main reason research is being done into cloning is not so we can clone full human organisms, but mainly the ability to spontaniously create individual organs or body parts that certain individuals may require (Check out the mouse with the ear on its back, a similar experiment). Right now hospitals are in deep shit when it comes to people who need organs. So cloning research allows us an alternative to the all too few groups of organ donors. THIS is why most cloning research is being done.
However, when it comes to the cults its all a scam to draw more fucking attention to themselves. They pose no threat, and are probably fudging their data.

The best effects are the ones you don't notice.
