MistyCaldwell--you stinking rock! Apollo 13 has been my favorite movie since I was a little kid and saw it in theaters with my grandparents. I have both the VHS and DVD, and at one time ripped the DVD audio to make a CD of the audio so I could listen to the dialogue of the movie. I've practically memorized all the lines from the movie.

Here's why Apollo 13 is so good: 1903 or whatever the Wright brothers make first powered flight...how far did they get? They stayed up for 12 SECONDS!!

The Saturn V Booster rocket, bulilt only SIXTY YEARS later, IS the most powerful rocket that has ever been built and carried three men to the MOON, almost a QUARTER OF A MILLION MILES AWAY.

That's why Apollo is a cool program. The movie is so good because it tells a story of such ingenuity. Absolutely amazing. When this crew is thousands of miles from earth, thier trusted machinery fails. And do they panic? Do they give up? NO. They and mission control find ways to fix what has gone wrong. Movie attests to the ingenuity, persistence of Americans, people of the '60's, and the human race in general.

I could go on and on, but me has a big math exam, and me needs to study. One other comment:

Contact is second greatest movie. Here's an outline of why:

1. Religion vs. Science.
2. Religion's place in government.
3. Science vs. government
4. Search for relevance in this life.
5. Love story
6. Search for a lost father.
7. And, of course, cool effects!

Wish I could write more, but I gotta go

PS Pleasantville is third favorite cuz...I like stuff about nonconformity :P I think it's an interesting subject. Not saying i'm a nonconformist, but it's just neat-o. Also, the effects ROCK and Toby Maguire just rocks in general.

Yeah. Pleasentville is really social-critical, and therefore plain cool. Like the "no coloreds" signs they have in the movie then...
And Tobey Maguire really is a cool actor, like in Spider-Man he really fits the role perfect!

7)Police Story
6)The Kid From Brooklyn
5)Harlem Nights
4)Shawshank Redemption
3)Valmont
2)Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail
1)KungPow: Enter the Fist

Why? (in few words):

Lion King - Why not? Who didn't cry at this movie? I cried all my water weight from this movie. It's great. I also watched the last time they'd air it on T.V

Invasion of the Body Snatchers - My GOD!

High Anxiety - yes ..make fun of thy HitchCock

Police Story - sliding down a 70-foot pole wrapped in Christmas lights in a shopping centre? oh yeah, Jackie Chan's so goodlooking

The Kid from Brooklyn - I'm a sucker for the Classics. I know you asses don't know who Danny Kaye is :( . What a hilarious movie, he's the best

Harlem Nights - It doesn't matter to Eddie who's good or bad, killing ppl and shooting their toe rocks

ShawShank Redemption -
Reviewer: You feel you've been rehabilitated?
Red: Oh, yes sir. Absolutely, sir. Yeah, I've learned my lesson. I can honestly say that I'm a changed man. I'm no longer a danger to society. That's the God's honest truth.

In 1967? ~
Red: Rehabilitated? Well now, let me see. You know, I don't have any idea what that means...I know what you think it means. To me, it's just a made-up word, a politician's word so that young fellas like yourself can wear a suit and a tie and have a job. What do you really want to know? Am I sorry for what I did?...There's not a day goes by I don't feel regret. And not because I'm in here or because you think I should. I look back on the way I was then. A young, stupid kid who committed that terrible crime. I want to talk to him. I want to try and talk some sense to him. Tell him the way things are. But I can't. That kid's long gone. This old man is all that's left. I gotta live with that. 'Rehabilitated?' That's just a bulls--t word. So you go on and stamp your forms, sonny, and stop wasting my time. Because to tell you the truth, I don't give a s--t.
Approved
(sorry that was big)

Valmont(!!!) - Wow ..just wow. You got the french in the 18th century, Colin fricken Firth and Annette Bening, sex and love letters, what else?

S. for the Holy Grail - you yellow bellied bastard

my humor's kinda crazy kinda retarded, kinda weird, and kungpow best fits it, you either give it a 10 or a 4

After seeing the lists already posted I have a hard time picking my ultra favourites because my memory is now refreshed of all the greats.

10. Looking for Alibrandi
9. Terminator 2
8. Rushmore
7. Eraserhead
6. Shawshank Redemption
5. American Beauty
4. Pulp Fiction
3. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

1. Apoc Now Redux

They were somewhat off the top of my head, most other movies I really like but because its only top ten and a list I had to leave heaps out. My preffered way waould have been a top 5 and general list of movies that tie at six.
