If the forums no longer are up, how will we know when it's people's birthdays?

You're absolutely right!

That's it... if the Org shuts down, I'm going to make a birthday forum where you guys can tell us all about when your birthdays are.

Nothing personal, trythil, but that idea is awesome. I don't have a problem with some of the stuff you do - I mean, not everyone is going to be bestest friends with everyone magically if the forums go away, as you seem to think - but ditching ratings would be a great thing. We know what the good videos are; it's not like a rating is going to tell us anything new. (Does anyone even look at anyone's other than their own? Didn't think so.) They're worthless except for small-minded people to obsess over.

List AMVs, find them, get them. Sweet simplicity.

Well I don't know about that... yeah, a lot of good videos get bad ratings and a lot of bad videos get good ratings but it is still at least some indication of what someone might like. I, personally, did look at the scores back when I was using a 56k modem because I couldn't get many videos. I found a lot of videos I like that way. Now, I look at the anime/song/creator/concept and pretty much ignore the scores.

But I won't deny Trythil's point. Just wanted to say that. :?

To compromise - I'd allow a system whereby videos CAN be reviewed, given marks, and the reviews could be responded to by the creator, but on a private, non-competitive basis - so that if someone gives you a poorly-composed review, you won't bitch about the fact that it took you off the top 10% list, but just take it the way you wish - either as an alternative view of your vid's quality, or as a refelection of the reviewer's quality.

And noone else would see them or would care about them.

Yep, just you and the viewers. I'd still write ops and let creators have an opportunity to improve based on how others rate them. Just on a non-competitive basis.

Put it this way, take the constant competitive aspect out of the org and it may well take away the tension while keeping the place useful.

Not a bad idea, but will take a big change to happen.

for once i sorta agree with sara, besides in my ops i have a thing were i tell them what i gave in there anyhow, and not many people look at others scores i just like watching and oping, if you dont give words in your ops then you might as well not op videos, and when i started this i wasnt reffering to the forum, mostly the site if the forum shut down i wouldnt mind but if the entire site did, plus if forum shut down the site would have much more bandwidth to use since this forum is taking up a crap load of bandwidth.

I don't think small, mostly text-based scripts take up a lot of bandwith.

At least in comparison with the videos. And then, think of all the people who download vids but never visit the forums.

No, no, if it's bandwith you're saving, save it on the vids heh.

Personally, I can't figure out why people voice such concern over Phade's bandwith with barious bizzare suggestions to save it, when the man himself doesn't seem to grope about it all that much.
