lol :)

I haven't found a reason to disconnect them.

Unless you're talking about remastering you-know-whose 'Celebrity'

(let's just slowly walk away from that thought)
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I want to read. Give me.
I lied, it's not much of a rant, just a simple fact many people miss. 720x480 is not a 4:3 resolution for computers but it is for televisions. Computers utalize square pixels but televisions utalize slightly rectangular pixils, which is why the largest used DVD resolution is only 704x480 and 720x480, when used on a television you recive an image with a correct aspect ratio. However, most anime music videos are being made for computer viewing, not television. The end result is a large ammount of 'high resolution' AMVs that have incorrect aspect ratio, with small black bars at the top and bottom, unless your player resizes the image, and not all will. The offical Divx Player can do the correct resize if you set the aspect ratio to 'TV', however, windows media player does not have this function. Many of you may say 'Well, WMP sucks then use another player!' This may be true, but it still means you're videos are lacking universial compatability, just like QuickTime or RealMedia, no universial compatability.

So a great many of us are encoding our AMVs with incorrect aspect ratio, simply because we are mimicing the most common DVD resolution (DVD standard actually supports a fair ammount of resolutions, they just arn't commonly encoded to them) thinking that if we make it just like the original, it must be perfect. While it's probabbly a decent idea to work with 720x480 do you can then encode your project to TV formats, such as DVD, (Super)VideoCD or what not to distribute for television viewing (Like AMVs cons where you could submit a DVD of your creation.)

I myself am quite guilty of this crime, most of my productions have been encoded to the resolution of 352x240 (Which is the VCD resolution, and one fourth of 704x480, both DVD and television designed resolutions) Though now I'm encoding new works correctly for VfW (Video for Windows),

All high resolution AMVs should be encoded to nothing wider or longer then 640x480. Right now I'm encoding my Animatrix project to 512x218, which, after a great bit of math I am sure is the absolute correct resolution to maintain the aspect ratio. (Since about half my source material is 512x386, the other) Give or take a a pixel. :)

Oh yes, and before someone mentions this, I'm spealing of NTSC DVD and Televisions only, not PAL. I am fully aware that the rules of PAL are differnt. :)

By universial I ment that they require propritary players to be played. :)

The QuickTime player is insane, who would release a player that requires you to buy the Pro version just to have access to advanced features such as 'Full Screen Playback'? While I'll admit it's nice to go to Quicktime.com and see any movie trailer I want, that's all I use it for. RealMedia on the other hand, I refuse to download, use, view, convert from, or break should I see RealMedia crossing the street while I'm driving. :)

I use realplayer alternative, available for download from kazaalite page, the link is on same part as klite codec pack. it has no nasty spyware.
they also got a quicktime alternative.
oh, windows media player is horrible too. i don't use it, i use BSplayer.
reason being is that ITS FILLED WITH FRIGGIN SPYWARE. Microsoft sells your listening and viewing habbits to companies.
