Cinematically, Dogma's not very good. But it brings so many religious issues to light that it becomes awesome. I don't know of any movie which has promoted as much thought for me.

dogma was really funny for me ... probalby because i was able to understand about 3/4 of the kooky christian mysticism that i was able to identify. Though god being played by Alanis Morristte(sp?) was pretty interesting ...

I hate the fact that he got into mainstream comic books in America and everyone praised him for it. The guy can write a movie script and direct. That's a given, but his comic book story tellin' style is shit. The guy should stick to movies and eating sandwiches.

Actually, I think he's a better storyteller than a director. I haven't read his comics (well, part of one once, but I'm not a comics book fan in general) but I kind of suspect that he's better at that than at actually directing a movie.

Trust me, he's not. I'm a huge comic geek. I'm the equivalent of an otaku when it comes to comicbooks. I'm mr. comic geek. I make the fat comic guy in simpsons seem like a mental inferior on that subject. Anyway. Smith has GREAT ideas, but his way of executing them is horrible, That and he can't get his fat ass up and actually write anything so most of his books end up being many months behind. Many many months.

It's not that he's lazy, he just has a lot on his plate. Directing is a very time consuming task! Trust me, I've done a bit of directing myself and it takes more time than simply writing a script.

I also read on a comic mag (can't remember which), that he is working on more than 1 comic title...so that could be the reason why his books are late.

Dude, one of my favorite writers (he writes 3 of my top 5 monthlies) writes a total of EIGHT books! And he gets most of them done. Why do a half assed job? Either direct and then write when you got some time or do it vice versa. Do the job right, or don't do it at all and waste my 1.99 and waste my time, and waste space because someone who DOES know what they're doing coulda been writing it.
