It's one thing if energy and automative companies promoted this on their own, WITH THEIR OWN MONEY. I'd be all for hydrogen, at least in that regard.

It's another, however, when they do research with government funds (your taxes and mine), to develop vehicle technology that is several years away at best, unproven (both in reliability and benefits), requires a massive infrastructure overhaul, and requires, get this, people to purchase NEW vehicles, at whatever bleeding edge prices the companies want to set.

Basically, they are using government funds to develop technology that ultimately benefits THEIR bottom line, but with potentially no benefits elsewhere.

Why aren't they promoting biodiesel, for instance? Because biodiesel can be made by anyone with a shed and a formula. Biodiesel runs in EXISTING diesel engines, with a little (cheap) modification, or none at all in newer vehicles. Biodiesel does not represent major new profits for the energy companies, vehicle companies, or their cronies in Congress.

THAT is the problem with hydrogen.
I'm out...
