I think Lyrs brings up a good point though, about emotional commitment... or a different sort of emotion. He didn't view the president like everybody else did, JFK was just another guy to him. Maybe not even a president at all, that's just a title. He was first and foremost a "brother" and that's the only thing Gump can relate him too.

I like the way you put it, it sounds a lot like the other answers I have done in the collection of questions so far.

By the way, this is a Relgion class taught by a Philosophy fan.

Me personally I would discus how ironic it is that it take countless types of energies in conjunction with so many other factors making conception quite and unlikely and often volatile scenario, yet it only requires a small 11.44 mm shard of lead to end said life. Then I would take into consideration how useless it is after so much hard work on a sub-cosmic level to even allow existence to end. Not to mention (being that this a religion class) negligent.

But that’s me.
