Then what will we blame, WE MUST HAVE SOMEONE TO BLAME!fyrtenheimer wrote:I wasn't doing that.Stoic wrote:It's also ridiculous to blame a game for violence kids commit :-pfyrtenheimer wrote:There are kids all around who aren't "raised" at all. Parents can only do so much. There's a guide to adulthood; Parents ARE NOT the guide, they're simply in the guide. I understand what you're saying but it's absolutely ridiculous to just blame the parents for everything a kid does.

Parents can only do so much to be there for their kids and try to be there for their children. But they DO need to work and support the family. Kid's can act like the little angels in front of their parents and the parents will just think there's no way their little baby is playing violent games, when in fact they are behind the closed doors of their room. Parents don't have time to search under the bed for violent games. I'm not saying that's for every parent when there actually are parents that fail to read the rating and DO buy the games for their kids when asked, but they should know their kids well enough to know they can tell the difference from what's real and what's not. The parent's don't know what their kids are thinking all the time, but I'm also saying that they should check up on their kid's once in a while to notice differences in personality. Most of the time though, even though they try to help, the kids simply don't want it or are in denial of it, and when the kid is like that, there's not much they can do. If kids are gonna go out to shoot people, they have the gun, they pulled the trigger, and they killed people. No matter what the age, they should take responsiblity for their actions and not blame it on games as I think thats just a stupid ass excuse to lessen the charges. Games are a form of entertainment, not a guide to literally shooting people, and for those who fail to see it, then it's too bad for them.

I worked in retail for a period of time longer than I would have liked (almost all my college career) and I can tell you NOT ONCE did a parent whom I informed of the rating of a game put the game back. I heard what I believe is nearly every justification out there. Even grandmas were to blame
Now that isn't to say that all parents disregard the ratings...those that did likely never even asked me to open the case. But....the number of parents who had kids that could have been still cutting teeth..buying GTA 3, Vice City, Silent Hill, and any number of M rated games...it upset me personally. Thus I made it a point to mention to each and every one of them.
What I see in my daily and professional lives, is a huge population of parents who want to be their kid's friend. They don't discipline or draw lines in the sand because it upsets the child...WTF
