Leni Riefenstahl had died

Post by Simpi » Tue Sep 09, 2003 12:51 pm

The legendary & controversial director of´'Triumph des Willens (1934)' & 'Olympia' series about Berlin Olympics, has died at an age of 101.

Film 'Tiefland' (Lowlands) has been seen as her personal critique of the Nazi party, but unfortunately it's completion was halted by the war and it only saw daylight 1954, far too late.

Her final film was a documentary 'Underwater Impressions' which finished 2002. No matter how one thinks about her life, it must be said it was nothing short of legendary with two world wars, personal involment with Adolf Hitler and 50 years as black-listed 'persona non-grata'.

Sad. I saw Triumf des Willens just last year and thought it was excellent - in a certain odd sense, but excellent. Look at it how you will, it's probably the best piece of insider history from Nazi Germany.

Well, the news stories do tell who she is...

There's not much you need to know about her, but you really should ser her above-mentioned film Triumf des Willens ('Triumph of the Will'). Nazi propaganda at its' finest.

The documentary The Wonderful, Horrible Life of Leni Riefenstahl clocks in at a fascinating and absorbing 3 hours. I highly recommend it.
