:AFDS (Anime Fan Detection System)
:John Westbrook , Brian Auxier , Others (Feel free to add)

:You start comparing the anime and manga formats of a given show.
Heck, I take notes and write dissertations.
Yes, it's true - people can spend HOURS a week on anime!

:You start skipping meals, dressing, washing and going to the bathroom
:for something you have on tape.
I skip or delay those anyways

:You have a reserved list of fansub dealers on speed dial.
IE Favorites List (Opera Sucks!)

:You took a Japense language course to save money on you next anime
:series.
I could be considered a Gateway fan - a person who has learned about Japanese culture from anime, or has at least been interested.

:You wish you could access hammer space (girl's) or gun space (guys) on
:any given day.
Think of the possibilities!

:You understood the last joke.
Of course I do.

:Your still reading this list.
Uh huh.

:You believe that at any moment, the government will call you to pilot a
:giant mecha.
Why not? Like there's anyone else around here who still regularly uses VMS and BeOS.

:Your waiting for some basterd to push too far to turn you into super-
:sayin.
:What's a realationship? (Just kidding)
That's dumb.

:Con = reason for living.
Could be for some people. Not yet for me.

:You've seen more anime then the average Japense Otaku.
Just as soon as I unloop my Sky PerfecTV cams.... it's AT-X, Animax and MBS for me!
Oh wait, American anime geeks are not supposed to know about Sky. I forgot.

:You take your date home and play some type of romantic anime to show
:that you’re the emotional type
Contradicting thought. I do not have a date, and I will *never* have one. Too much work, not productive.

:You confuse real-life with anime (Wait there's a difference?)
I can see similarities and make connections, ja.

:You MP3 collection has more J-POP anime theme songs then songs in
:english.
True! From Utada Hikaru to V6 to TMR to Brilliant Green to Ayumi Hamasakito Maaya Sakamoto to... you get the idea.

:You have to make room for your next set of anime posters on your walls.
With my new Aestivalis-inspired multi-session display and work system, I won't have to.

:You have a pet plushie.
No, but I do have plushies, models, etc on my display panels. Most anime and mecha, thought I have a Tux and a Daemon (BSD).

:You wonder which cosplay custom to wear today?
There are 3 full days of NDK. 3 days.

:People go outside?
I certainly don't much.

:You take the term 24 hour video room quite literally!
I certainly do! But of course there's panels, symposiums, plenary lectures, the Exhibit hall, poster sessions, presentations, workshops, and panels to attend. Gotta run.

:You scour ebay, and local video stories looking for rare titles
Every month.

:You are always on the hunt for the elusive perfect collection, that
:contains all anime ever created.
OC3 + Celerra = Anime

:When you enter a major city your waiting for the monster to hit it.
If it's near the creepy Stanford campus, most definitely.

:You have a 4 hour discussion about the end of eva or lain.
No. 4 hours is plenary lecture or symposium, max. Panels and forums are about 5-6 hours, a dissertation is 10-15 pages.
X and Escaflowne are much more fun to analyse.

:You believe DDR isn't a hobby it's a life style.
DDR MAX RULES!

:You look at the line around the block for a con and say "See this is why
:we got here a 6 am."
That idiots. Here at NDK you have to arrive 7 hours early toeven get parking!

:You look for slightest details in shows to impress your firends.
Sometimes I end up taking notes by slowing the playback speed.

:You pull out a laptop and it takes you a full hour to chose which DVD to
:play.
Windows Media Player: 9 days worth of video.

:You see a video store and you have to complan about the anime
:selection.
I am not a complainer, But the selection at Scumcoast does sorta suck.

:You sign a patition againist cartoon network cutting up anime.
No, cutting it up is appropriate and I understand why. But I do think they should show uncut subs on A**lt Sw*m. It's called A**lt Sw*m for a REASON!

:You buy all the BESM books and still don't accualy play it.
I have only one book.

:You have Anime DVDs you have even taken the raper off of yet.
Dot Hack Sign Gestalt and Escaflowne Movie.
That makes two, which is plural. True then.

:You order by imporantence (Inside Joke)
XD

:Your room looks like an anime production company has set up shop
:there.
With my new Aestivalis-and-Mac inspired multisession swivel worksystem, it will soon.

:You suddenly and without warning yell out "Kanda!" waiting for someone
:to yell back "Tesou!".
Not in this city. THough I often do it on chat.

:You have the vs discussions on your local chat board.
How lame.

:You've signed up for more then 2 anime mailing lists.
3 is not a large number.

:Your AOL screen name is Anime related of course.
I don't use AOL. I have anime domain names (paid for) what else?

:You compare girlfriends to anime charcters (Don't do this!)
I will never have a girlfriend.

:Before you date someone you look at her collection first to see if your
:compatable.
See above.

:You quit your job to go to an anime convention.
I have no job...

:You think Gendo would make a pretty cool Pimp
Uh.... do you need help?

:You know who VICBOND and Scott Meltzer are and you can name all-
:there videos.
This is the AMV forum. Duh!

:You don't just attend MAT3K you add your own lines that are funnier.
I do something even funnier - I *EDIT* the character's lines!

:You see anime game combat screens and ddr arrows when you fall
:asleep.
Not the DDR part though.

:Your food money becomes rationed out like a 3rd world country.
Worse: a corporate IT budget.

:You sit through all of eva and the movies (Thats about 13 1/2 hours
:worth of eva).
I'm plannning to.

:You build a fond kindship with your pushies and take them everywhere.
No plushies, but I do take along extra mecha models and Tux stickers for setting up shop while out.

:You spend several hours just setting up your computer for optimal video
:capture for making good AMV's.
This is the AMV forum. Duh!

:You think your are blessed just because you know someone who worked
:on this is otakudom.
:-( I don't know anyone, sorry.

:You think Video room, Restroom, Vehicle, and under a covered table = a
:place to sleep.
All those places are usually full and security will eject you - the relephony room is better. Mechanical at worst, but only if you can get Ethernet.

:You stay at other peoples houses to avoid the con hotel fee.
I stay in the car.

:You see Mcdonalds or Buger King and think "hmm well that covers my
:meals for 3 days"
Yesiree.

:You don't sleep at all and decide instead to watch a all-night kenshin-thon
I've tried it, as an experiment once. See article: "Anime Is A Good Physiological Substitute For Sleep: Similarities In The Effects Of Anime And Caffeine".

:You dance and sing to opening theme songs of your favorite anime
Even in Japanese.

:You can sing the english and japenese verisons of your favorite anime

Several actually.

:You arn't playing your LARP character you are your LARP character.
I do slip into it's accent often.

:You instead of going to church watch X or some other type of anime with
:religous undertones and subtext.
I don't even go to church - on sunday I write dissertations on mythology and religious symbolism, yes.

:You look for religous truth in your anime IE (Lain,Eva,Patlabor,X .etc)
See page 17 of article: "Forshadowing the Future in Anime"

:You can't go on a date.. "Becuase, well she likes other anime"
I do not go on dates.

:You scour your local college/highschool looking for other otaku to barrow
:stuff from.
I do proavtively seek out other "otaku", indeed.

:You look at the real tokyo tower and think "damn I thought that got
:blown up already"
"There's a REAL Sunshine 60 building?!"

:Your date dresses up in cosplay and you have to fix her outfit cuase it
:dosn't look right.
A nickpicker is me.

:Your personal collection of anime weblinks is better then most search
:engines you use.
And getting better... I ahev them organized by usage: Downloads, Info, News, etc.

:You goto your local CVS and think higene or anime?
CVS? Isn't that Concurrent Version System?

:You don't cut your hair so you can buy more manga.
I don't cut my hair often because it increases my hair's product lifecycle - client controllable maintenance TCO!

:You think which anime themed shirt should I wear today.
Which shirt, in fact. THough I try to hide my anime preferences from my parents so I usually disguise it with Non-Geeky sweater and change later in the day.

The "Apple: Switch" parosy, by Daniel Wang.

:You've uncovered the hidden meaning of all anime *no I'm not telling
:you*
Please don't tell me then! "Ok, it goes like this..."

:You start up your car to the alpha team speed rscer mix and play it

MUST... HAVE... EVERY... DISTRO!
It's worse than my collection of kernels, really.

:You've run out of tape to put up all your Anime posters.
I've had to get more tape, yes.

:You've bought a perfect grade model kit.
Engineering grade, custom done. The regular Gundam models may have aesthetic and visual accuracy, but not density and property consistency. I'm looking to cook up another fresh batch of Gundanium at CSM tonight, add some extra molybdenum for heat conductivity, replace carbon content with monolayer-polymer bonding, etc.

:You know what that is.
Exactly 3279 parts+screws. But, if my DVD player's zoom function is right, the real Gundams use Torx screws. Not philips, not flat, nor hex. Torx

It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

Absolutely Brilliant! :D
"Light in the absence of eyes illuminates nothing. Visible forms are not inherent in the world but are granted by the act of seeing. Events contain no meaning in themselves only the meaning that the mind imposes on them...yet the world endures,...whether or not the mind exists..."
