I hope people will consider The Gullable Mermaid for Best Use of Special Effects!



The first time I watched this, I genuinely had no idea that it had been so heavily edited (other than the lip sync, of course) and my initial impression was that it was just amazing and extremely lucky scene selection.

I'm glad that he provided a breakdown with a description of what he did in each scene to make it blend so seamlessly, because it's actually kind of nuts how overboard he went (pun intended).

Character Profile Considerations


This video is such an incredible portrayal of Yugi's and Yami/ Atem's relationship. Every single line in the song perfectly describes so much context of the series that I feel only true fans of the show would ever fully appreciate. The "I'm the one who can set us free" line is especially powerful because it applies to not only Yami being trapped in the Millennium Puzzle/ present day, but also Yugi being trapped in Yami's shadow of success and accomplishments that nobody believed that Yugi really contributed to. This video does such a good job at being a character profile that's simultaneously about 2 different characters and at the same time, their combined singular self.


This is another character profile that I really enjoyed because of how well it portrays so much subtle context that only Genshin fans can fully appreciate, but it also does a great job at showcasing it in a way that non-fans can still understand.

First up!!



I feel like this one might get overlooked cause it's from someone not in most of the servers our target audience for the VCAs is active in, so I just wanna make people see how sick this Detective Conan AMV is. Luciole always has bangers but this one is a delight. One thing I'd like to point out is the pacing, there is only one segment where I look at the video and I'm like "Oh you're coasting to your next section", which even that I enjoyed.

His composition style is always clean and fun, and IDK it's kinda charming when applied to Conan like this.

All I ask is you watch and enjoy!

Best Creative Vision + Use of Special Effects

I came across this gem while surfing through r/KoeNoKatachi, and I gotta say, the way this guy implemented those tints, picture-in-picture clips, masks, and other effects and synced them all to the beat is really impressive. On top of that, the scene choices for some of the lyrics were excellent.

Hello, while I am still making my way through videos I thought it best to go ahead and post my For Your Consideration playlist. My goal was to find vids from editors I was either less familial with or which didn't get much visibility in the U.S. con circuit. For many of these, I only saw them for the first time because of the VCAs. Strong concept/pairing with great pacing and tension, can't imagine a better tribute to this series

I love the way the water motif is weaved through this mmv, really makes the specific feelings of alienation and longing for community palphable
