Obtainable AMVs

Post by E~Mellon » Wed Apr 29, 2009 3:40 am

Hi there! It's my first time posting on here, so sorry if I sound like a total noob. I just uploaded my first AMV and thought that when users go to watch it, it plays in the browser unless the creator wants it downloadable. When I clicked on mine, I was given the option to download and save to my computer. What I'd like to know is, is it possible to make it so my AMVs don't get saved to people's computers but still allow them to watch online? I hate to think of mine and other people's creations being saved by dishonest people and passed off as their own all over the net. I didn't have time to add credits. Maybe I'm missing something! Lol.

From the announcement thread on Video Embedding:

While it might not be immediately obvious how to download flash videos, the answer is a simple google search away. Like the tube, videos can be downloaded here as well. We've taken a couple of measures to make it a little more difficult, but anyone with a cache viewing tool would be able to get the videos.

I'd also like to note that the preview is made from the uploaded AMV. There is no way to make a streamable preview without uploading the video for the download.
Why would you not want the vid for download anyways? That's why the people usually upload the vid for, as a mean for the others to get HQ version :>
Well, that's how it has been for quite a few years now~

Can i be a dick right now? Ok!
[MOD22: No.]

Well it's simple. It doesn't work that way, people have to download the videos unless your a donator and have enable the preview function! How are they supposed to pass it around the net as their own when it's kept recorded here on probably the biggest AMV site on the net as being yours? The answer: they can try, but they will fail. :D

Double Post - Who needs a cache viewing tool? Ever heard of Realplayer? Free, legal, I use it, comes standard with Vista, and did I mention that it downloads flash videos? It's still possible to block it but it's really not hard to get around that. Not hard at all.

Fair enough, thanks for the replies. It makes sense now, I supposed I'm just a bit paranoid. :)
