music style info missing
Hi,
why is there no indication of the music style on the video info site?
Band/song name almost never tells me anything.
And the music comprises about 2/3 of my rating...

See any of the 20+ discussions over the last few years about "music genres" - tl;dr? There are hundreds of mostly subjective genres of music. The subjective nature will lead to a useful and extremely complicated database addition. That's why it will never be implemented.vume5 wrote:Hi,

You fail. So fucking hard. And the music comprises about 2/3 of my rating...

Indeed. Imagine the fury of the metalheads (rather prominent group that we have here) when there is only one "genre" for all music that remotely fits the description of metal - and the equal confusion of the general public when Melodic Death Metal or NWOBHM show up in that little section.
Can't please everybody, and both too general or too broad a categorization will end up equally useless in the end. And think of the editors who may or may not be comfortable categorizing their video's tracks.
Anyway, the real point here is:
That's something an editor can (and should) easily put in the video description, anyway. Why make a complex system when the editor can choose to tell you yourself in ways that already exist?

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

If you give a video a low score because you don't like the track, please do us all a favor and never rate a video again. That's so amazingly narrow-minded it's ridiculous.

You know, I think being objective is one thing, but denying that the music of a video shouldn't influence your attitude (and hence the score) is silly. Some people just can't get into a video because of the music. If that happens and the video doesn't engage you at all because of it, it's probably not going to get a very good rating, or at least as high as a rating otherwise.LivingFlame wrote:If you give a video a low score because you don't like the track, please do us all a favor and never rate a video again. I couldn't possibly agree with you more. I think that the basics of a good AMV is the footage going well with the track (obviously) even if the music sucks. Then you worry about good music, flashy effects, etc etc.LivingFlame wrote:x2BasharOfTheAges wrote:You fail. Point out where I said that the music shouldn't influence the mood of the video or the viewer. Please.Tsunami Jones wrote:You know, I think being objective is one thing, but denying that the music of a video shouldn't influence your attitude (and hence the score) is silly. The point is that the quote from the topic creator implies that if he/she doesn't like the song, then the video will receive a low score from him/her regardless of whether or not the video matched the song or not. Rating an AMV on song alone (or 2/3 on song, in this case) is ignorant and narrow-minded. Objectivity (which you brought up) is looking at the video as a whole.

You didn't, as I didn't directly quote you saying it, now did I? Instead, I inferred it to make a point. I also infer from your statement that you think his opinion is entirely invalid as well, and that you think he is "narrow-minded." But isn't invalidating someone's opinion like that "narrow-minded" also?LivingFlame wrote:Point out where I said that the music shouldn't influence the mood of the video or the viewer. Please.
In terms of quantity, yes. In terms of quality, meaning, or anything else? Not necessarily. If you add two piles of crap together, all you have is one big pile of crap."The whole of anything is greater than the sum of its parts."
