AMVs.org VCA Awards, can i get some moderator help here?
I'm really upset and I need a mod's help, the internet at my house has been down for a few weeks now and i completely missed the announcements about the VCA. I could only get online every now and again by going to the public library in my town. I was really hoping to enter one of my vids, but i didn't expect the VCAs to come up so quickly, or while I was unable to get online. Im so bummed because i feel that i have a video that would have been able to compete. I didn't get the message to check the box on my profile, so i missed the opportunity to enter my vid, is there any way that my video can still be entered into the contest.
Naruto truly is the badest ninja around.

I'm sure you can submit to next year's VCAs if you make any vids this year that qualify.

You have a total of 24 reviews on that. That many downloads makes the star rating statistically insignificant. The VCAs are about notoriety - I'd honestly be surprised if anything that did win had less than 100 times that many downloads.GoJeff24 wrote:Bummer, my vid for this year's VCAs got 4 stars ...

he's not hating... no matter how good your video is, if very few people have seen it, then it's less likely to get anywhere in the VCAs...

Hating, ha.
It's more than just notoriety. It's politics, pure and simple. It's not just about how many people have seen the video, it's also about the network built around the video.
You can break the path to the VCAs down the same way as any political campaign:
Announcements are the first steps for any given video. This isn't just related to the New Vid on the Block box, nor just the thread in the announcement forum. It's any time you formally tell a group of people about the video. Including other forums, or even boochsack.
The next steps are usually various types of advertising the fact that you consider your video good enough to be watched and, more importantly, lauded. This includes mentioning the video to individuals. Friends, family, other editors, even non-editors. Creating banners for your signature. Mentioning the video where you think it serves as a good example. You are trying to create a buzz around the video. And in fact, you are trying to create self-perpetuating buzz through word of mouth. This usually means...
...Endorsements, which are a major tour de force in the VCAs. That's why we have the nominating threads. If you've been successful in creating a network, usually years in the making, that network will in turn come out and vote for you. With endorsements you have managed more than just a singular network, rather you have a network of networks. When your endorsers publicly throw their support behind you and/or your video, their networks respond by voting with them.
Like any political contest where tastes are widely dependent on who you are, where you fall, and who your friends are, the final numbers are all that really matters. As with any election, there will always be arguments over whether or not the winning candidate really was the "best." Your choices are: mobilize an army of voters, exploit a flaw in the system, or steal Florida.
