Locked forums

All most every forum I look at is locked. Most of the time I can't see why. Could someone tell me some of the many reasons forums get locked so I won't make mistakes. Also what are some topics that might cause spamming?(whatever that is)

Flames can get a thread locked. So can spamming. For that matter, being pointless can get a thread locked.

Read the stickies and announcements, especially the ones that mention rules, and then obey them.

Also, any thread that's been inactive for 3 months or more becomes auto-locked.

+ the fact that they never get deleted = a crapload of locked threads.
