my ftp is hooked and running i can connect but can others?

Post by axron27 » Tue Oct 29, 2002 12:03 pm

i seem to be transferring data and i'm able to access my ftp and dl my own files -testing of course-but any disconnection whether the file has dle'd or not results in an error message at termination of connection. lack of opinions on my vids is making me suspicous

Simple: Refer to your FTP access .log.

I figure you managed to download a file successfully,
however the connection went terminated right after that.

---

This is a common issue in FTP. It happens when the server detects no activity from the client after a specified amount of time (even though the client is downloading a file.)

This can be solved by either modifying some settings in your FTP server, or, your client has to refresh the connetion everytime before it gets terminated.

---

Because I don't know anything about GuildFTP, I can only provide a solution for client:

- Open your client FTP settings
- Look for an option that says "Keep connection alive" or similar
- Make sure it is enabled

Enable this will make your FTP client automatically send FTP commands to the server when no activity is present, which will keep the FTP connection alive.

---

Test again, see if it works now.

What error does it give you ?

I connected to your FTP fine and am currently downloading a video. The links to your videos should be direct to the file, not to theFTP. Example : ftp://129.44.143.10/anime music video.mpeg

I would also shorten the name of your file something like "AMV - SMJ Side 1 - axron27.mpg" would work instead of "anime music video saber marionette lime side 1 axron27.mpg".

Once more thing, post these requests in Off Topic rather then here in site help. Site help is for help with THIS site, not YOUR site :p

well i'm not using guild -it don't run on my system- ArGosof

ArGosoft is actually what I'm using it seems that the programmers designed it to give error messages regardless of why connection is terminated. It would be nice for some of the users who dl files to give opinions so that we know if anyone got the files. i comment.

thank you for testing me. i originally had a shorter name but the files weren't drawing hits on p2ps that i use and was informed -humorously- that many who frequent p2ps are like vegetables and must be spoon fed file descriptions so i named my files similarly to anime music vid files in my folder that were getting hits. I was going to append the file names to the links but i felt that allowing access to the folder would make it easier for users to obtain both videos. thanks again i can stop overthinking and second guessing myself -i'm obsessive compulsive ya' know lol-.

Did you know that KaZaA has a file database :) You can simply just add a description (say "anime music video, videos, amv") to your video without the need to rename the file, and it will be searchable.
