DVD How-to guide not working

For starters, I'm a noob and this is my first post.

I've never made an AMV, but that's partly because I haven't been able to get footage off of my DVDs.

I tried to access the DVD usage guide on this site, but everytime I tried, Acrobat Reader crashed. I've never managed to get passed the title page.

Is there any way for this problem to be fixed? If not, does anyone else know how I can get clips from my DVDs. (I don't have a video capture card.)

Can't help you on Acrobat, but did you notice that there's a non-PDF guide too?
