When does a post become a necropost?
I wrote a longish reply for this topic, completely forgetting that I'd found it through a search. That got me wondering-- as necroposting is considered the Eighth Deadly Sin around here, what's the cut-off point?

If you have something important and relevent to the thread, then you might be justified in bringing it back. If you just post some crap like "me too!! =D" then you should probably have your flesh ripped from your body. The main problem with necroposting is that when you bring the thread back up to the top, other people will see it and think that its a new thread, and then people start joining back into a conversation that they dont realize is dead, until someone points it out. This leads to some interesting and humorous situations at times.
Necroposting could also cause some serious confusion in certain forums. For instance if you necropost in the convention forum in a post about one of last years conventions, people could think its for this years convention and get some wrong information.
Overall though, its not really a huge deal. People just get annoyed when they see a post thats been dead for a year or 2 get brough back to life :p
As far as how long to wait before its considered a necropost... on the forums that have a high volume of posts, I would never bring back anything after it goes past the first page or 2. For the slower forums, I don't think necroposting matters as much, but you would still try to keep it reasonable.
