Downloading Local, how to do it with SP2

Post by Maver » Tue Nov 09, 2004 10:39 pm

i checked some topics about the same thing and responses saying to use firefox and that its a bug in IE and strange that this error is poping up all of a sudden. well i know the problem is windows XP service pack 2 the new IE updates make it so a website can't force a download on you. normaly if it did this you can go to the top bar right click and say allow download. but when you do this it really refreshes the connection with the site so the a-m-v.org says that its too soon to redownload it. Sme thing if you click the link.

well after looking around i couldn't find an reply on the boards for it so i looked around other places and found an answer on how to fix it.

just thought i post it incase anyone else needed it:
(note: there is no securty risk by turning this off, sence the download prompt will be just that, a prompt and if you got directed to the wrong site and it was trying to get you to download a virus (and it used this method) then it would ask "would you like to download this-is-not-a-virus.exe?" and you can respond no to it and no securty hole in your computer)

To stop blocking file and software downloads with the Information Bar

This procedure will allow Web sites to automatically prompt you when downloading files and software (bypassing the Information Bar).

Open Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
On the Security tab, click Custom Level.
Do one or both of the following:

To turn off the Information Bar for file downloads, in the Downloads section of the list, under Automatic prompting for file downloads, click Enable.
"When its your time to go its your time to go, so lets get going!"

TGP hosting, slow downloads for those that have no where else to go. Email me for detals.
