Top 10%

Post by AMV_4000 » Wed Oct 27, 2004 2:14 am

Ok, i have a suggestion about this... Euphoria has been at the top for about a year now... and i think we should do something about it.. I say for any video that has that kind of rating should be put into an AMV hall of fame, and taken off of the top 10%, this also should go for videos like Tainted Doughnuts, and so on... videos that are rated so highly should have their own special place, where people can go and be like, hey, that was a great video! or, for new members who havent seen them, it would just show some of the best older videos the org has to offer.. just a thought, do what you will with it.

I remember back when I watched MTV, they'd retire any video that spent 65 days in the Top 10 on TRL.

The problem is that if you take a video out of the Top 10% list, then that list is no longer accurate, because it's really the Top 10% That Aren't Euphoria. Plus it's somewhat like saying 'your vids are too good to be on the list', which isn't really fair to the creator, although it's the same general problem that we've had with the trolling rule in AMV contests.

What I would do is structure the AMV Hall of Fame section like this: Editors with videos that have remained in the top 10 or whatever for a set period of time (I'd say at least one year) get an automatic invitation. If the creator is okay with it, his/her Top 10% vid would be taken off the list and put into the Hall of Fame section. This gives editors the choice of whether or not they want to stay on the top 10, and gives them a chance to bow out gracefully, etc etc.

It's not a perfect solution, but it's an option.

How about just add another filter, to remove videos that have been on part of the list for a year. For instance, remove videos that have been in the top part only, videos that have been in the top 2 parts, or videos that have been on the entire list.
Rather than screw up the accuracy of the list, this gives people a personal option.

How about getting me a program to do the "Current Top 40" list that I've wanted to add for ages?

The top 10% should be an all-time list. A "new videos" list should have a different scoring methodology and that's what I'd like to have.... but... programmers? hello? bueller?

. When it comes to programming, this would not work the way you'd think:
1) it would miss anything just becoming popular ( uploaded a week before )
2) it would ignore those who got "only more download's"
3) it would ignore those who were "popular"
4) it couldn't tell if it was "just a lot of people downloading it - for the series. )
. You can't have a list that would be accurate unless it follows these rules:
A) take the total's every day, at every minute.
B) compare each list made all the way back to the "very first upload"
C) average the Peek Downloads and Scores for each AMV.
and
D) have someone screen-out the silly ones ( like, cat commercails, floating dots )
but the result's would still be -incomplete-
. Now - what can be done, very easily, is a list of files by current downloads
and their "curves" as to when it started to be downloaded; as compared to how
long that "curve" lasted.. This would show that it was truly popular, via the length of time the "curve" had taken place.
( i.e. if it lasted, a continuous download for over a month, that would be popular. )
--That can be Programmed and a Popularity Pole can be made from it.

If thiers gona be an "all-time list" then the top 10% just aint it. Their are well over 200 videos on that list, and that just too much. An all time list should be 50, 100 at most. i would sujest a top 10-20 list for each respective genre and then an all time top 10. But considering how slowly this site is updated, i wouldnt hold me breath.

Okay, well... don't look at any videos past the first 50 or 100 then. :?

How bout a hand picked list by a few chosen people.
NO CODING REQUIRED

Then perhaps every month there could be a lottery, and the winner would get to rank his top 40 as well, and they would be averaged into the list.
