Are constantly dead direct/indirect links ever removed?

Since my questions seem to be so popular in the suggestion forum i figured i'd ask if cronically dead links are removed or theyre just marked as dead by other users?
I guess someone had the same idea as i did and tried to see how many new direct links were duds or "I haven't finished the video yet" links. The entire first page of new direct downloads in the super search turned up just 1 downloadable video while all the others stated the link was either down or not found (i.e. simply a link to an obsure web page that never even mentioned said video). Because of this, many statistics are obviouslly wrong (and i know how many people here love to talk statistics).
What are your opinions on this?
