Filenames vs .org-AMV names & Add Opi-Link to dl-Page

Post by nokvok » Mon Sep 20, 2004 8:52 pm

Hi over there,

Am downloading AMVs here quite a while now (no money to donate and no skills to create thus i'm just leeching :( ) and i usully avoided the Forums, but it is late at night and i am sick, thus my Brain doesn't work right anyways, so i might as well post here.

Well, i wanted make some Suggestion i guess... here it comes:

My dl-behaviour showed me clearly that the only reason why i dled 359... wait... 360 now... local videos while giving only 3 opinions is the simple lack of a "Give Opinion"-Link on the download Page (the Page which is shown After the Download started).
I am quit of the Lazy kind and hitting "Back" several times while messing with the automated dl-scripting isn't my thing... esspecially when i dled ten AMVs at once

-> Thus i suggest to Add a "Give Opinion" link to this dl-page. (It would be great if i could give my Star rating on the Give Opinion page, too... allthough i am not sure if this function isn't there allready... i am not hitting the opinion page often :( )

Neither do i think it is funny to try to guess which Filename belongs to which Video name...

-> Thus i suggest to Match the filenames of the download with the Actual name of the Video as it is shown here on .org

... oh, and of course i suggest that you all wear Warm clothes on windy aotum days so that you don't get sick like i did...

... further i suggest someone tells me the correct spelling of aotum... i do not suggest to search for any further Spelling errors, though...

errr, just click on the "my downloads" link in the main members page which shows all local videos downloaded. and please try and show a bit of appreciation to the hard work of amv'ers by giving a few OP's . we spend weeks working hard on our vids. its not hard to spend 5 minutes ticking a few boxes and writing a few coments.

sure, i wouldn't mind giving ops... that's not the Problem, the problem is the accessibility of the Op-Page and the often difference of the Name of the video and the Name of the File.

I actually though about the suggestion i made before i made them, i am sure these Improvements would make it much easier for me to give ops, and the easier it is for me to give ops the more often i will do it... simple logic.

I btw, believe i am not the only one suffering from this problems when sorting their Vids or accessign the op-page for just downloaded Vids.

I agree witht he extra opinion link... Can't get enough opinions!

But the filenames are the same as what they were uploaded as. I think it'd be really daunting to write up a script to rename all uploaded files, so you'll just have to yell at the editors who name the files they upload weirdly.

Like me. =p

I think what he meant, or rather what i originally interpreted it as, is the video information page or *somewhere* should list the filename.
I remember a while back, I downloaded like 20 amvs all to the same song... even though I tried to give star ratings as I went, I ended up getting confused and having no idea which video i was rating, so I ended up just giving a lot of them the same score.

Yes yes, adding the Filename to "somewhere else" than only the dl page would be enougth, creating a certain "File naming Standartisation" as Guideline for Submitters would also be Great, some people use the Anime name, some the song name, Some just an abreviation of the Vid-name, many Add their Studio or creator names... of course some add them as Prefix some as Postfix
All in all it is a pretty messy job to find a certain AMV in my AMV folder, may be if we have a Guideline "How to name your AMV properly" people wouldn't yell at the Creator sthat much ;)

It's a good idea in principle, but much like trying to get everyone to agree on one way to name their MP3s, you probably don't have good odds for sucess.

I know MJ renames his vids to a certain convention (Anime - Editor Name - Song Name or something like that), perhaps you could try that? The filenames aren't edged in stone, nothing's stopping you.

Hmmm, you know, this is something that could be an .Org preference. We have all the info in the db; we could generate the file name for local downloads per downloader's preference.
