Local download won't work

Every time I try to download a file locally it doesn't work. I've been a member for a long time, I'm using internet explorer, and I have the latest edition of windows media player. The error message I keep getting is:

You've encountered error message C00D11CD while using Windows Media Player

Does anyone know what might be wrong

it could be a codec problem. get ffdshow and see if it works.

You need to tell IE to download media content instead of trying to play it automatically, too. It's in the Options....

Tools/Internet Options, the Advanced tab, make sure "Don't display online media content in the media bar" is checked and "Play videos on websites" is NOT checked. That might help.
