Uh... Dude... What's happening to the stats?

Post by Rorschach » Sat Apr 17, 2004 3:35 am

So first, the stats telling us how many times people have visited our pages disappear.

Then the stats on those pages telling how many of the visitors have downloaded our videos disappear.

Then those stats also disappear from the search and from the video profiles.

What's going on, Phade? Why are the counters disappearing? Did they just take up too much space or something? It's rather hard to guage how popular an AMV is just from the number of hits. Some of my videos get a much better hit-to-download ratio than others.

Can we at least have those counters back in the search engine? Please? Pretty please?

I haven't checked my stats yet, but the site is undergoing a revamping. So I'm sure they'll be back and looking better than ever in no time. ^_^

Teach me to speak before checking.

My stats are all there. Were you looking at the Edit Videos page? What browser are you using?

No, I was looking every other place they usually are.

Checking the "Edit my videos" section (Something I don't usually have a lot of reason to do) did turn up those counters, but it looks like the only thing keeping them there is that this section hasn't gotten the new format yet.

Given that all other counters that vanished so far have never come back, I'd say this looks like a bad trend.

I'm using Mozilla, by the way, which has not had any trouble with anything on this site yet.

You've still not said WHERE anything has disappeared from... Everything looks fine to me.

*Ahem* I said:

In other words, the stats indicating how many people have downloaded a given video no longer show up in listings on the search engine, the personal page, or the video profile pages. (The first set of stats, by the way, also used to show up in the personal profile page. They vanished years ago.) I thought the personal pages, the search engine, and the video profile pages were pretty well-known around here. Do I have to hit you with a sledge hammer to make you understand what I've written? Pay attention!

I can't believe I'm the only one who's noticed this mysterious disappearance so far. Are the download statistics still showing up in these web pages in your browser?

You did not say what page you were referring to here. This is what I was asking about.

Regardless, all my stats show up fine everywhere.

It's been my experience that:

- on the video info pages, hits and downloads have never been visible
- on the member profile pages, hits have always been visible but downloads never have
- on search results and the Edit My Videos page, hits and downloads have always been visible

And I don't recall any of this having changed recently, so I don't know what the problem is.

^ That's exactly what I've always thought.

How long have you been around here? As I recall, the download stats on the member profile page vanished somewhere around the time Phade put in the Direct and Indirect link-checking system. (I noticed because my profile was usually where I went to see how my videos were doing before then.) Of course, the Local links never did have download counters on them, so if you'd been dealing only with those, you probably wouldn't have noticed. As for the stats on the video profile page, they vanished years ago. The reason I didn't complain is that, up to now, I could still always check the search engine and get the download statistics there.

Is the search results page still showing download stats for you? I've tried it with both the Mozilla and the Internet Explorer browsers, and I'm still getting nothing but the hit stats.

Bottom line: I don't care what happened to the download stats on those other pages, but the search results were the only place left that displayed them publicly. I at least want to keep them there.
