Oh, come on! An Off-Topic/General Discussion forum is something virtually every other forum has. Apparently the people running 'em seem to think an OT/GD forum is, in some manner indispensible, y'know, like they gotta have it.Doggie wrote:Hi all. I'm new... and umm... yeah... By not having an OT forum, nobody can accuse AMV dot Org of following the pack. The Org is in a 1337 position, 1337 of the 1337. I mean try to to find a many as *five* php forums which do not have some kind of off topic provision, not even a "welcome n00bz" provision. (English language forums only please) A dubious task to pull off, I'm sure.
The Org also differs from other Anime-orientated forums in that Anime, manga, music, and conventions are considered wholesome and worthwhile topics of discussion, but cosplaying is considered a redheaded stepchild, and is thus off-topic. I'm not sure of the logic of this, but I'm sure it's all for a very cogent reason, the entire syllogism being no doubt sound in premises and conclusion.
You also cannot accuse the Org of not having a sense of humour. See the word "moderator" written in green at the bottom of the index page? Well, have you ever seen anyone logged on with a green name? Well, not me, and that's what the punchline probably is. Continual threads by n00bs on not being able or not knowing how to download, with people occasionally flamin' 'em for their inability, is also a welcome source of amusement. So while you're posting or downloading, just reflect on these matters and let a grin form on your face as your task become all the more bearable.
Mindless conformists we are not, sir.

Here are 6 (six!) other forums which do not include an off topic section, and they weren't hard to find at all

You know, chances are there's a reason for that.azulmagia wrote:Oh, come on! An Off-Topic/General Discussion forum is something virtually every other forum has. Apparently the people running 'em seem to think an OT/GD forum is, in some manner indispensible, y'know, like they gotta have it.
I'd like to think that the org is followed by the pack.azulmagia wrote:By not having an OT forum, nobody can accuse AMV dot Org of following the pack. The Org is in a 1337 position, 1337 of the 1337. That's just because we're weird.azulmagia wrote:The Org also differs from other Anime-orientated forums in that Anime, manga, music, and conventions are considered wholesome and worthwhile topics of discussion, but cosplaying is considered a redheaded stepchild, and is thus off-topic. That's because they're all Admins.azulmagia wrote:You also cannot accuse the Org of not having a sense of humour. See the word "moderator" written in green at the bottom of the index page? OK, so this bit is true. It is amusing to see all the clueless people go around and ask.... silly.... questions.azulmagia wrote:Continual threads by n00bs on not being able or not knowing how to download, with people occasionally flamin' 'em for their inability, is also a welcome source of amusement. We aren't? Are you sure?azulmagia wrote:Mindless conformists we are not, sir.And to think there are people out there who want to dilute this aforesaid uniqueness in forumtopia.

You got 2 and a half forums there. Creativecow and Anime on DVD indeed have no OT. Overclockers forums has a forum O/Community that suspiciously resembles All About Me, so therr's the half There is about as much difference between "Off-Topic" and "General Discussion" as their is between cipher and zero, in other words, none at all. 8)Zarxrax wrote:Here are 6 (six!) other forums which do not include an off topic section, and they weren't hard to find at all

Ok I overlooked those sections on winamp and overclockers, but I hold that doom9 and oc remix's general discussion sections do not count as off topic. Why? Because they are general discussion for the topics that the website is based upon, NOT general discussion about what you just ate for dinner.
So thats 4.
I could find more but I'm too lazy.
So thats 4.

It is sound.azulmagia wrote: The Org also differs from other Anime-orientated forums in that Anime, manga, music, and conventions are considered wholesome and worthwhile topics of discussion, but cosplaying is considered a redheaded stepchild, and is thus off-topic. Let A be the set of all anime music video-related topics.
Let B be the set of all cosplay-related topics.
| A intersect B | = very small. The only thing I can think of is when someone was inspired to do a cosplay routine based on AD's DDR Project II video.
In any case the two sets are mostly unrelated. Hence, cosplay is off-topic.
