Donut abuse drop box?

Post by turboneko » Mon Oct 06, 2003 1:10 pm

Hi All,

I usually lurk the "new dowloads" section and, more than once, I come across videos that violate the donut rules (live action videos and same video multiple times usually). Would it be possible to create a new forum similar to the moderator drop box just to signal abuses of the storage server? Storage space ain't cheap and it's not going to last forever... at least let's try to use it properly :P

Phade: I think that the Utopia is great and all... but looking at the quantity (and quality) of the videos being uploaded to the donut, wouldn't it be better to restrict the upload only to donators?

It's not matter of being elitist: it would save space and be a great incentive for everybody to toss in at least a couple of bucks a year to support the site.

Hey,

About the uploading only to donators, I honestly think it detracts from the Orgs purpose. Its here to be a place where people can put up the videos they've created, and forcing them to donate kinds takes away from that.

Although one thing that might work is if everyone had a set number of video slots, say 4 or 5 mayhaps for an example. And once they've uploaded that many vids then they need to contribute something before they can add more, and then something for every other vid they add on after that. Maybe with an increasing minimum.

Although most of the serious creators who have that many have already given something (I would think), plus some have hosting of their own so I really don't think this would impact most people to much.

I *REALLY* like that idea. Although I can see some immediate problems with it, I think it could be worked with...
I think anyone that donates any ammount at all should be able to upload all their vids that they want.
People that havent donated... well... maybe limit them to uploading 3 or 5 videos. But the problem comes in when they want to replace their old video with a new one they made. They wouldn't be able to just replace videos on a whim, because once you've uploaded a video, its there, you're stuck with it. This could create problems for some people... I don't see any workaround for it though... allowing complete freedom to change the files should definately NOT be allowed though... as that would make it a lot harder to monitor files for appropriateness, i would think.

That's why I proposed to just restrict the upload only to donators: unfortunately you can't deal with the # of videos limit without allowing people to change/remove their entries.

On the other hand, I think that unlimited upload capability should be worth at least $1/year.

Phade: is it possible to have some statistics on how many actually use the storage server without having donated (yeah, those little rows without the green background :P)?
