okay since this thread's ORIGINAL INTENTION was to discuss solutions to the "chatter" problem i have a couple of possible solutions (one of which was shot down cause someone said that if they want that then they can go to livejournal)

1. make a reply button, it doesnt have to be as "fancy" as eljay's system, but whatever works... and there can be a link for how many replies it has... of course there should be a way to block members that try to harass you with replies... so it might get complicated.. could be something similar to (dare i say it) the tube's version of "comments" on videos.

2. okay since people are talking about the PM system so much in here :roll: why dont we make the PM system more accessable on journals?.. add a "pm this person" link to the top of their journal... you know it can go right next to the "add to journal buddies list" link...

OR if you wanna get really fancy, you know that bar down there at the bottom of each post you make, that has all your ims and a button for pm and even one to your org profile... put that at the top of everyone's journal page that way if they want to interact, all the links are right there at their fingertips..
~~~~~~~~~~~~
though truthfully i love it when theres an intelligent discussion on the journals and everyone has their own bit of input on stuff, its always neat when that happens...
of course lately its been trolls trolls trolls :/ so yea, seems to have lost the spirit imo.
I like that idea, because I know at least with me, the journal chatting goes on in response to someone else's journal that I won't always remember when I get to the pms and find the person or get logged into my IMs. So, I just included it with my journal entry while its still fresh on my mind. While, since people asked nicely, I'll try to cut down and try to remember what I was going to say until I get to the pm, having the pm button in the journals or just anywhere on the main page I think would help immensely with the journal chatting.
For God's sake, people, this is an ANIME MUSIC VIDEO site! Just how much maturity do you need to make an ANIME MUSIC VIDEO??? For me, it's because I was looking for more entertainment than just the stupid kiddie-pop trash music and rediculous videos on TV. Not a lot of older people with spare time on their hands will do this.
So we're all kids at heart here, and if you take AMVs and AMV journals so seriously that it makes you go cry to someone, then who's got a problem there.
Eh, you can "do" pretty much anything without maturity. You don't need maturity to make a video, but neither do you need maturity to get knocked up. The point is that maturity should be encouraged and sometimes enforced.
Not really sure what you're trying to say in your next comment. First you say that they're just "ANIME MUSIC VIDEOS", then you say they're better than the "rediculous videos on TV." Which is it? Is the AMV community worthy of a mature environment or is that restricted to the adult professionals who make "rediculous" movies?
For some people the journal issue is about hurt feelings; since I neither keep nor read journals on a regular basis, that's not my personal concern. I'm simply arguing for actual troublemakers to be dealt with personally instead of slapping a new rule on the entire site. I'm actually partially agreeing with you--I don't think the journal immaturity is such a problem that we need more legislation. We just need admins to actively quell the extreme end of site abusers.
I must say the journals remind me of the comment sections in myspace without the html codes. People just comment back and forth to each other.. and it's a main highlight on the member main page.. so it's like a headline on random conversation and kinda like a return of the general chat section. It's more like a chat board than a journal. That's my thoughts on it. I don't know exactly how it works because I don't use it but that's the impression I get on it. It's a very social board in a lot of ways like Myspace is a social board. I really don't understand the main purpose for it anymore.. I thought it was suppose to be more like a diary sort of thing that you can choose to make either private or public.. Actually I don't know it's purpose maybe it's just there for fun and to be used anyway people want. I don't know the way it is intended to be use but the way I see people use it seems a bit odd.. I didn't know it was some chatting service.. maybe it's not but that's what I see it being used for.
no one has mentioned anything new about the donation-only OT so odds are it's still dead in the water
good luck
You all say that AMV's are more important than all the chatter in journals, so work on those instead of nagging about 'journal abuse', because if you had 'better things' to do, You wouldn't even look at the journals,
would you?
theres a certain someone on this thread that i think is only causing more problems than trying to help solve the problem, perhaps if he stopped his finger pointing and got to suggesting ways to make this better people wouldnt be so upset about this whole fiasco... (or pissed off at him in general)
this thread was not ment as a salem witch trial where you point out the people who annoy you only to try to get them burnt at the stake, what this thread was ment for was to look for a solution to the problem....
so if people would think of creative ways to solve the problem rather than point fingers it might go to actually contributing to the site rather than causing drama...
get to it.
ps. no one is telling people to stop posting, or telling them to only talk about amvs... the problem isnt content imo so much as the chatter, and the back and forth, and the ammount of posts being made... if we come up with ways to make it easier for people to communicate than to have to go through a maze of clicking, then that might go to solve some of the annoiance...
Solution A (my vote): 1 journal entry per day.
Solution B: OT forum for donators above the whatever mark. That way you won't get spammed with 1 cent donations when the postage/paypal/method of transaction cost more.
I'll vote for a ratelimit (though i think only one post a day is kinda harsh... i someitmes privatize posts when i realize i made a mistake and repost... either that or give us an "edit" button) my vote would be at the very least 2 posts a day... or if you wanna get really fancy: 1 public post a day... vs private posts... private posts wont put you on the journal list :/ and since thats the problem people are having is the public posts...
...
Id also like to vote for a possible "reply button" even it it only links to the PM system...
though ive noticed some people DONT READ their pms *frustration* *ahem* so perhaps a warning that they may get responses in pm might help :/ or a link at the top of your journal page that says "read responses here" to go to your inbox or something..
thing is this will deter NEW people from trying to just respond in journal, and they will think "oh look i click here to respond" rather that "how the hell do i respond to that post? oh i know ill make a post about it!" (since thats how i got into journal chatting in the first place :P meh)
by the way I'm still sending out pms to "offenders" in case any of you were wondering :/ but I'm taking them now in a case by case basis..
not to mention some people have read them and some have not.. (another reason the reply button going to the pm system might help people to start using it, cause alot of them probably dont know if they even have a pm O: heh)
