Re: Introductions Subforum

Re: Introductions Subforum
Structure. The 'topic' of the Intro area may be broader than some of the other areas, but it does have one, and so long as moderation is kept up to stop it from devolving into OT-lite, we're good. Some of the ideas about time limits might work to that benefit also.Kitsuner wrote:In other words, free OT?Qyot27 wrote:An Intro forum for the sake of having one and the sake of lightening the mood is better than for a clique argument, IMO. I thought the Relationship Forum was a good idea as a way to let off some steam, even if it started as an April Fools thing...an Intro area could be similarly cathartic, for both old and new members.
Think more of a 'member interview' section (this could be a good venue for a weekly or quasi-regular interview for long-time members, seeing as that feature on the main site kind of stagnated). Sometimes other forums call such things 'Facing the board'.

Also, I want to say hi to new people :>
Saying hi to new people is fine, and should be the reason to have the forum.
I think the reason people were willing to communicate with you is not because you are lucky, but because you chose to participate with the community. I think this will always be the case weather or not we have an intro forum.

That works.
I'd like us to at least try this out for a while and see where it goes. Having posted in intro threads on other boards, it made me feel welcome and got to see how laid back people were. It helped me get into the flow of things.

Re: Introductions Subforum
Don't know if want. I'm not sure I understand why we need it. I'm not necessarily opposed, but I'm clearly not sold on the idea. How will an introduction forum make life easier for the community as a whole? Just wanting to say hi does not seem to be sufficient reason to create an entirely new forum, nor to deal with its possible negatives. There must be some conceptual benefit at least...

Why?Kionon wrote:There must be some conceptual benefit at least...
What is the conceptual benefit to "Anime Screencap Forum" or "General Music"
Or even "Anime Series Discussion" if you get right down to it?
I don't understand why
A:People assume the worst about the community and use that as a reason to have the forum, or
B:Assume the worst about the community and use that as a reason against.
I also don't understand why the philosophic burden of proof is on the same level for human experimentation here. I shouldn't need to provide such drastic reasons or empirical proof that having a place to greet newcomers and point them in the directions they need to go might be a nice thing to have.

Re: Introductions Subforum
Because jokes are terrible things and should be avoided at all costs. Comedy is a dying breed for a reason.
