you can discuss teenage rebellion if it's in an amv, anime, or music-related context.Knowname wrote:As you can see rareley can you discuss AMVs without discussing teenage rebelion, but without an ot section we can't even discuss that.

is this danielwang? you go on tangents frequently enough that i have no idea what you're trying to say or what your line of reasoning, if it exists, is.

Tell that to my 8-year-old brother. His sense of sarcasm alarms me.Knowname wrote:Studys show children under 10 cannot understand sarcasm...
(I'm totally serious.)
Sarcasm isn't a mindset though (it's a behaviour). Rebellion, as you're using the word, is.Knowname wrote:That is putting it lightly, you never really grow out of sarcasm or rebelion...
And will you please stop assuming that all teenagers adopt the rebellious mindset?
There are plenty of teenagers out there that have consistently great relationships with their parents (and often other authority figures as well). I say this from personal experience: I knew a whole bunch of them in high school.
I don't see why you can't use someplace like Demonseal for that.Knowname wrote:like I said, I just want a place where I can put my id on a damned LEASH without fear of Big Brother.
I never used the OT forum, but I never got the impression that things like flaming and nude pix were among the reasons it was removed.

You're going from a single data point, yourself, and assuming a general trend. That's strongly flawed reasoning, and thus not worth serious consideration.Knowname wrote:in English please?? I know that I'm spurting out knee deep in philosophy and words I can hardly define myself, but are you saying that Otohiko did NOT just say that one of the biggest draws to a-m-v.org is the community? Are you saying I'm the only one that feels that way??
This is simply wrong. Music is a form of art, and like any art, is a medium of expression. Inside the limits of the medium, anything can be expressed. I wouldn't call the Mona Lisa or Sistene Chapel rebellion any more than I would call the song "The Star-Spangled Banner" rebellion.Knowname wrote:I'll repeat this, 'make music videos' or 'make GOOD ANIME music videos'. The very GUIDES tell us what to do. No, it doesn't go into specific sorces but (and I was afraid somebody would say I'm being too much like a '50s old person) music IS (in most cases) rebelion.
Recreating the same situation will recreate the same problems. Regardless, the Org isn't the place for that. If you want somewhere to unleash your id without worry about my and my ilk, then I have a solution for you: go somewhere else.Knowname wrote:My suggestion is by speciffically re-opening the Off Topic forums with simple rules as before such as no nude pics, uh, keep the flaming to a minimum, 2 strikes and your out (with the option of rebutle) and whatever else... like I said, I just want a place where I can put my id on a damned LEASH without fear of Big Brother.
This is not a punk rock site. It never was, and as far as I know, it never will be. You've got things partly right, and from there you're twisting everything to fit how your perceptions.Knowname wrote:If this site is to be a distrobution of ENTERTAINMENT media centered on a teenage, rebelious attitude then we NEED a place to go wild or problems WILL (as they have) arise.

I was pretty sure the old OT forums were removed for the actions of a few people who's opinions were a bit (putting it mildly) on the extreme ends of the political spectrum lashing out at each other and having that spill into the other forums. I'm not sure though. When I joined the site the OT forums were then and when I came back from a two-week field exercise they weren't anymore. Such is life in the military.
But I believe...wait...I don't think I've ever voiced an opinion on this, given that I think I posted a grand total of 3-4 times in the old OT forums....I believe that the forum could support an OT community. Heck, it already does in the form of the daily locked threads in General Anime or General AMV. The desire to talk about things that aren't anime, music, videos, or a combination is there and the forums here are a great place to do it, and people DO do it and will CONTINUE to do it regardless of a OT forum or not. There is a great camraderie among AMVers despite the constant wars of n00b vs. 3lit3 (which is more or less nonsense...it's more of a war between people who type well and ppl who dunt car LOL INTERNETSPEAK). Having a real, honest to goodness OT forum again will do a lot to bring the community together. Will it attact 'undesireable elements' (if such a thing exists?) Maybe. It will attact people who use boards to socialize rather than use them as information resources. The thing is, those people are already here, already doing that in other forums (inappropriately). Locking threads does nothing. Banning members does nothing either. Maybe at OT forum will help, maybe it won't. What I'd suggest is a probationary period...say, two-three months. If things look good, keep 'em, if they don't, toss 'em again. It's no loss to me, I socialize on Hypeodermic's forums and the #amv chatroom. But it would be interesting to meet some of the creators who don't use those venues in a more OT social setting and the .org CAN, in theory, provide this.
(not taking the time to proofread this...it's very stream of conciousnes, may not make any sense either, but that's okay)

wow... i thought this was a sarcastic joke aimed at beating the ot forums like a dead horse. Reading on, i found out you are serious. That is what scares me. Frankly, i know very few teenagers who are rebellious. Yes i know a few, but those are rarely the ones who have seen anime(at least in my little NE corner of the U.S.). I am a teenager and proud to admit it. Sure I might fight with my parents and other such authorities sometimes, sure i strongly dislike the current president, but rebellious? No. If this site were about teenage rebellion and sarcasm then it would be a horrible place and I wouldn't bother to waste my time here. It is exactly the opposite reason that I come here.
Also, you claim you need to let your ID run free, or some other bull like that. You claim you need someplace to express your 'teenage rebelliousness' however you also claim to be 24... how can you possibly call yourself an authority on any of the points you brought up?
Anyways, this topic has turned into a perfect example of why maybe bringing back the OT forum would be a bad idea. So please, just stop digging the hole deeper, it's dead, let it rest in peace and stop soiling it's memory more than has already been done.

The idea of a OT forum might be a good idea, like badmartialarts said, maybe consider having a week or month long trial to see if its worth it, or, like mentioned in another thread, make it available to donator's only. I, despite being a teen, have never felt the need for a OT forum, but, I would appreciate the opportunity to laugh at other's expense on a new topic, rather than just the one's begging for a place for rebellious teens to rant, er, have a interesting discussion outside the realm of AMV's.

By that logic suicides are the same as rebellion (both are a way to deal wit life), therefor (by your "logic"), sarcasm means you're rebellious, meaning you'll commit or attempt suicide. If A=B, and B=C, then A=C. I used your logic, you can't argue with me.Knowname wrote: Sarcasm, rebelion, same thing. It's how you deal with it (it being life).
Sarcasm isn't how I deal with life, We get along quite well together without it. Sarcasm is just me having fun. And what I use when some idiot blinds me with stupidity. Guess which this is?
I'm not rebelious, I got in trouble alot, but that had been for most my life (stopping about at the time of your so called rebellious age) and has more to do with me being clumsy (and unable to say "sir").

Well, when you think about it, suicide is like the ULTIMATE rebellion against life.Malificus wrote:By that logic suicides are the same as rebellion (both are a way to deal wit life)Knowname wrote:Sarcasm, rebelion, same thing. It's how you deal with it (it being life).
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.
