I like the idea of tying into CDDB. That could really help with genre associations - and provide a good way to keep the artist/song entries pretty clean (the future ones, at least). If someone really can't find it on CDDB, then let them list under some other name - but don't add that name to the list. This would prevent mislabels and misspellings from encouraging further mislabeling and misspelling.

Actually, we'd have to tie into freedb, I believe CDDB charges a licencing fee for commercial access to the Gracenote database.rose4emily wrote:I like the idea of tying into CDDB. Of course, as I've said already in this thread, none of this matters until the music database is cleaned up...

Well, the 'org would have to integrate the CDDB database into the code, and I think that's where the fee comes in. It may be free for us to visit Gracenote and search for a song, but for software to include CDDB verification there's a fee. That's why DVD rippers all use freedb, because there isn't a licencing fee...Kalium wrote:The org qualifies as commercial?dokool wrote:Actually, we'd have to tie into freedb, I believe CDDB charges a licencing fee for commercial access to the Gracenote database.
