Drives do die. A good question is, does it show up in the BIOS drive list?

You, sir, are the sort of immature asshole who deserves a lynch mob, only instead of being lynched your flesh would be dissolved by slow-acting flesh-eating bacteria as the lynch mob shakes salt over your wounds.

I don't believe magnets have any effect on blank CDs. A microwave, on the other hand...

My advice is that you should take your computer to somebody who actually knows what they're talking about, because I don't think any of you do.

CDs (and DVDs) are optical media --- they aren't affected by magnets.*

*OK, if you expose them to 100T they might be affected. But then again, I'd like to see you obtain a 100T magnet... Considering the Lawrence Berkely National Laborator's world record magnet was a mere 14.7T. Oh, yeah, and "several tons."

Nah, you don't need several tons. Take a one pound magnet and drop it on a CD from a height of, say, ten feet. That oughta do it. :D
