Uh... Dude... What's happening to the stats?

I'm talking about the results page for the Super Search, by the way. The New Videos search results page is still using the old format where the download stats are visible. Guess public download stats are only going to be visible for two days after the video is posted from now on...

Nope, you're right, there are no download stats for Super Search anymore. I'm using Opera 7.23. But I doubt it's a browser problem, and maybe it'll be fixed soon.

Perhaps I'm just dense, but I don't see why this is a problem.

The only person who needs to know about this kind of data on my videos is me, and only when I request it. (It'd be nice if it appeared in someplace more intuitive than the Edit Videos section, but oh well, that's a separate suggestion.)

Oooh, the number of times a direct or inderect link has been clicked? I was looking at the stats that are actually useful

I fail to see why its necessary for this information to be public.

The hit count is about as accurate as those counters were.

I could, for example, start a direct download, abort it, restart it, abort it, ...

and nobody would be the wiser. I would get something like 200 hits in a few minutes, though.

Yea, and I could have the most popular video on the site, and change the direct link every couple weeks or so, and going from just the numbers it would appear to be something that no one downloads.

So now that I've proven the stats ARE disappearing, you start playing down their importance. Are you guys working for political candidates or something? Your spinning is really beginning to piss me off.

No, Trythil, the hit count is NOT as accurate as those counters and yes, Zarxax, there is some importance to having those statistics publicly available. I never said they were perfect, but they do give me a fairly good idea of how many people out of the "hits" found a given AMV intriguing enough to download, and they're certainly a better and more precise indicator than the star scales.

The stuff you bring up about manipulating the counters is irrelevant: trying to manipulate them into showing more downloads the way you suggested doesn't work, and trying to manipulate them to show fewer is self-defeating; people generally want their videos to be more popular, not less.

Actually, you never did prove that the stats are disappearing. Your extrapolation that the stats will disappear from the "Edit Videos" page is flawed, as it does not take into account the information-hiding issues that Zarxrax and I alluded to.

You have not demonstrated a need for these statistics to be made public.

So, with that, I'd like to ask you to calm down. Your anger is amusing, but it's not really needed.

If you really wanted a quick answer, I don't understand why you bothered to keep responding to us, since we obviously can't serve you. Phade would probably be able to help you out better, considering he's rewriitng the thing. As he hasn't responded to this thread, and probably won't, you might as well just contact him directly.
