i'm sure the currrent mods don't have the time nor the will to mod a chatroom.seijin_dinger wrote:In theory if tied in like the Message Board etc it could be the Same Admins/Mods as in hereAbsoluteDestiny wrote:I do admit that phpMyChat is a very cool idea - but the reason to have a chat with admins is presumably to have admins

I know I wouldn't. Perhaps we put it to the "Chat regulars" whoever they might be, to hold some kind of poll. Of course the results would probably be fowarded to Phade or AD and given the go ahead, or the "what the hell were you people thinking?" and see where it goes from there.Pwolf wrote:i'm sure the currrent mods don't have the time nor the will to mod a chatroom.seijin_dinger wrote:In theory if tied in like the Message Board etc it could be the Same Admins/Mods as in hereAbsoluteDestiny wrote:I do admit that phpMyChat is a very cool idea - but the reason to have a chat with admins is presumably to have admins

That does bring up a small problem, with the exception of a few people like PWolf, it was the Chat Regulars that chased me away from the chat as well as chased others away by being assholesDeclan_Vee wrote:I know I wouldn't. and setting up my chat ( http://chat.animehackers.com ) the biggest problem I had was making it so you didnt have a 10 character length limit on the username and I easily fixed that with dream weaver.

exactly. it's the regulars who are usually the ones who are assholes about anyone new coming into the room. there are exceptions, there are some people there who are good about it.seijin_dinger wrote:That does bring up a small problem, with the exception of a few people like PWolf, it was the Chat Regulars that chased me away from the chat as well as chased others away by being assholes
if the chat is ever used and someone is appointed as a mod, then they would have to follow strict guidelines or they would be removed from the mod status.

Before I may start to rant, as a chat regular, I want to know, would both chats co-exsist, or will we only have one? Because, if newbs need help and such, their's the guides and forums to help them, the chat isn't really the place to ask for help. I don't see any real use for this unless you mean to replace the current exsisting chat.
your mom.

i don't think the AIM chat will go away. if a new chat was started, i'd be in both. The chat room is a very good place for newbs to come and get help. The guides are very confusing if you don't know how to read them. sometimes a little nudge in the right direction helps. The chat room acts as a fast way to get help. the forums can take a while and well if you don't understand the guides, which most newbs who need help dont, then what else are you gona do? Right now the chats arn't a good place to ask for help cuase anyone who walks in will get chased out. I've on several occations IM'd several of the people who were chased out and offered help. that's not right. the chat room should be a place where people can talk about what ever, including getting help on AMVs. Even us regulars ask for help but we arn't run out like the new guy.
Some concerns i kinda realized as i was trying out myphpchat on my server. Unless the refresh rate can be tweaked so it's real time... i don't think it will work all that well. Sometimes we get a lot of people talking at once and if it only refreshes every 2 sec, that's gone be annoying. also the chat bugged out on me when i used a "\" now that becomes a problem when i start doing my ": \" and the like.

as for refresh on the install you can set it to 1 second but it still takes about 2-3 seconds to write to the database and call the new info back from the database
