Please add some kind of ratings to videos...

By ratings, I don't mean how good a video is. I mean how appropriate one is. Yanno, so we could tell apart the kid-friendly ones from the adult ones. Or something. I'm getting tired of when I download something of an anime or song I'm not familiar with and wind up seeing/ hearing things that... I'd... just rather not see or hear. Mostly see. If there was a warning, then yeah, it'd be my fault, but there isn't, to my knowledge...

Any chance of seeing something like this?

Download videos only off local then. Local is, for the most part, pretty safe as far as sex and violence goes.

On subject, though, I wonder what standard you propose to use. We've had this suggestion before, and it got bogged down in the question of how to rate the things.

And of <i>who</i> would rate them. Do we trust the members to assign their own ratings (I wouldn't be surprised if some did already, as with fanfics), or do the mods watch every single video?

Really the best way to deal with this is to take matters into your own hands. Sites that sell anime like www.animenation.com and sites that catalog anime like www.animenewsnetwork.com all can give you a good idea of the content of the anime in the video. If it's Card Captor Sakura, the worst you can expect without a lot of editing is some implied man-on-man action; if it's Mezzo Forte, you can expect at least some violence. Lyrics sites can give you a picture of the lyrics you'll be dealing with, if the song has lyrics at all or is popular enough to be on a lyrics site. If you find the lyrics offensive, you'll probably not be into the video made to the song either. And the title of the video can sometimes give it away too....are you really expecting a video called "Serial Killer Mentality" or "Natural Born Killers" to be happy and go lucky?

Voluntary self-rating is a great way to ensure that this system fails. Mandatory even moreso.

Sorry for the bit of a necropost, you didn't make it clear that you wanted some sort of yaoi-pairing warning. I tend to agree with this, I really get annoyed at yaoi videos that doen't at least mention that's what their intention is somewhere in the video notes. But it's not up to me, so I just delete the video and drop the star rating I would have gave the video by 1 for my trouble or watching something I wouldn't have normally watched, and now that QC are around I can leave a quick "wish you'd have put a yaoi warning on this" comment for the video.
