"Error downloading codec" message

Post by CT » Sun Feb 06, 2005 9:51 am

I am having a problem viewing two videos in the AMV contest.
The videos are "The AMV Before Halloween"
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... d_id=52347

and "Every Breath You Take"
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... d_id=34262

I have downloaded both Locally (from animemusicvideos.org), but when I try to view them (In Windows Media Player 10), this message appears - "Error downloading codec."
Then the video will play, but only the audio file. There is no image.

I have already tried viewing them in DivX 2.5, Quicktime 6.5.2, and RealPlayer 8 Basic. I tried downloading "Every Breath You Take" from the Indirect server, but it didn't work.

Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

And what would downloading ffdshow do for my computer? Is it a media player?

It's basically a neat package of decoders which will allow your media player of choice to play back most typical types of codecs, including DivX and XviD and others.

Otherwise, you can try getting the codecs separately, starting from the latest builds of XviD and DivX, as those are used most often.

I downloaded the DivX upgrade, that did the trick. Thank you both!
