STARS, i cant figure out the meanings of the STARS...

Post by Takashi-SG » Wed Jan 26, 2005 12:45 pm

hmm, when i saw my STARS for my Videos that others gave me, i thought "hmm, soo bad?" I thought" that can't be".

But who can say you are Average, what is average and who is for example average... i thought that cant anyone deside... every person has an other taste so person A thinks "hmm, nice work 4Stars" and Person B thinks "na, i dont like it 2STARS"... i dont like this kind of opinions, but this is only my opinion...

Is this good, iam new at a-m-v.org so i cant say its normal or not..

AMV - Alone (2003-07-03) [hits: 15] [ops: 0] [stars: 2] [star avg: 2.00]
-(OK, its old and its not spectacular but an dramatic AMV.. i understand thats not best, its only to show older works...)

AMV - Fight Fire with Fire (2003-07-08) [hits: 70] [ops: 0] [stars: 15] [star avg: 3.27]
-(its old but 2003 its good i thought for this time, yet 2005 its old an not spectacular and good like PIAONOS AMV's)

AMV - Gunslinger Girl Part1 (2005-01-26) [hits: 28] [ops: 0] [stars: 4] [star avg: 2.75]
-My Newest Work, and a lot of other AMV'ler(not at a-m-v.org) says its good but its there opinion and they have other standards to deside what is good or bad...)
--------------------------------
so my Question, what you should think about it when you were an Creator that have skills but had an timout to make other things and came back to learn, i didnt think iam a noob and i didnt think iam a pro but i thought iam a little more than average...

i hope you can understand the meaning of this, my english was better a few times ago... i forgot a lot ^^, and i dont want to fool around or make some of you ill... sry Shocked

[stars:x] X is the times that people gave you a star. ex: 12, 89, 33, etc.
[star avg:x] X is the average between all the stars that were given to you,
ex: between 1 and 5.

To really judge the stars, I say you need at least 25 stars given. You can't take in consideration what 5 or 2 people evaluated. You need more points of view. You have to promote your video or exchange ops. Friends are friends and the will lie a little bit.

Also, if you click the "my downloads" button on the left of the screen when logged in, there's a little guideline that's similar to grades in school that you can use. It makes a lot more sense looked at that way.

stars aren't meant as feedback to the creator from the viewer, but rather a gauge of the quality of the video for people who are considering downloading the video. if you want feedback from a viewer, ask for an opinion exchange in the opinion exchanges forum.

as for viewers comparing a video to an average, you are correct that there is no definitive "average." however, each viewer may have an idea of the average quality of videos she has seen, as well as expectations for the one she is about to watch and will base judgements off these.

as ~Chrono~ said, you currently have two few stars to reliably judge the quality of your video. however, if you continue to receive low scores, don't let it discourage you, but rather motivate you to see how you can improve.

If the scores are distributed equally then the average star rating would be 3. So you can probably safely assume any video with a rating above 3 is an above average video and any below 3 are below average videos.

Don't take those stars that seriously though. Star ratings can change drastically when you only have a few of them. I've had videos that kept bouncing around between 2 and 4 stars until they it finally stabilized once I got around 100 or so stars. Also keep in mind many give star rating to videos they downloaded but haven't watched yet, or just because they like/dislike the anime/song, or because they're having a bad day, or many other reasons that aren't related to how good or bad your video is.
