Spellcheck

Post by Spellweaver » Mon Oct 11, 2004 8:49 pm

This is just my opinion 'cause I am a bad speller, but I think there should be a spellcheck in with the journal entries, and forum posts, to help out bad people like me, even though relying on spellcheck my whole life will not help me out, it will save me some time ;P any way this is just my suggestion, and maybe it will go on the sites "To Do" list, who knows

That's what the Preview button is for.

f you care that much about spelling, you could also write your journal entries and forum posts in Word before you post them.

That was the philosophy on another forum I visit (check your spelling in Word before you post), but they went ahead and added spell check and it really has helped some.

Can phpBB do that? They are using vBulletin.

I'm too lazy to open word, so I'd prefer a button if possible.

This is why you use the edit buttons we have been waiting for so long.

There exist phpBB mods that will add spell-checking capabilities.

I think it's a good idea, because it can't really be abused (although some may argue it will make some people seem smarter than they are... but I don't think that matters, even if that's what it would do; spelling only reflects part of a person's intellectual countenance). It'd be much easier for those who care about spelling but really have a hard time with it than it would be for them to compose in or copy-paste from Word.

Word?

Post by Spellweaver » Tue Oct 12, 2004 5:18 am

I know I can use Word to spell chack, and if I really wanted to the Dictionary (old school) and its not that I am lazy, or I wouldn't even be working on AMV's, its just that I think it would be a nice little addition, and for those who really have a hard time with spelling, it would make it easier, I don't think people will use it to look smarter, but people who are self concious about there spelling think people will think they are dumb for not knowing how to spell something, ages vary on this site. I myself do preview my posts and journal entries, before posting them, but can still miss stuff, or it looks right and probably isn't like the word "concious" above. I guess personally it doesn't really matter, I was just thinking it would be nice, and I am glad it got this much of a response, others seem to agree and some don't, everyone is entitled to there opinion and I respect that.

But that only appears in two forums, AMV Contests and Multi-ed Projects.

And it is a matter of laziness, I won't deny it. I'm going to try my best to spell everything right in a post, but I'm not going to open up Word and copy and paste it in there, so on so forth, just to make a small post. I would however click on a little button that says spell check, and I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one like this :)
