I've noticed this before. when looking for a video I saw at a con, I would search for any videos that participated in that competition, only to find a bunch of videos I didn't see mixed in. I used to dismiss the problem, figuring that the videos I didn't recognize were just entries that didn't get shown, but with smaller competitions, I was pretty sure that wasn't the case.
just now, I needed to look up a video in our OAS contest that I noticed already listed the contest under 'participation', so I searched for our contest, figuring I would only see a few of the entries that were already on the org. to my surprise, I found 2 videos from our contest, and 13 that are not in our contest. (for this particular contest, videos are limited to some form of Japanese music, so it's pretty obvious that those 13 videos are not in our contest, nor could they be)
what I'm wondering is, how do they get there? I've seen some videos with 10-20 contests listed under 'participation'. do these creators just go through and click on every contest they can? or is something mixed up in the database?
I just find it annoying when I'm trying to look for videos from a con I was recently at, and I find mostly videos that were not actually there.
Contest Participation fraud?

We have plans to change all that around. The hope in the future is for people to gain "Contest Organiser" status and instead of people being able to say they are in a contest, a contest orgnaiser has to approve them. There would be a general site admin from this and one official organiser per con.
This would also mean that the org could be used to officially log entries and be a useful tool when searching for trolling videos or copycats etc.
However these are all future plans. For the moment, just ignore people who selected everything.

How can anyone mark down that they participated in a contest that hasn't happened yet? The video could be cut for time restraints, because it had technical problems, because the post office ate the tape instead of delivering it to the organizer, etc. I wouldn't trust any participation claims until the contest has already passed and someone is actually positive their video was shown, before that it's nothing more than 'I hope it'll appear at...'. Which explains why my entry to your contest shouldn't have showed up in the search although it will after the contest and I know it was shown.

Oh, something I forgot, I find this page to be a better indication of what was shown at contests than the orgs listings. It doesn't appear to list as many contests as the org but AFAIK what it does list is accurate.
