its cheaper than buying dvd's, and good if ya wana try out a series by renting the first dvd, or if ya need a piece of footage from a dvd you dont own and you dont wana buy it

I can especially see this being useful if you're trying to make a video with lots of different sources and you and your friends don't own most of them.
