Surprized no one commented on this.

Anyway, there are. Several forums to help make AMVs, actually.

You've got, General Video Help, Video Software help, Video Hardware help, Audio Help, AMV Suggestions, and I'm sure there's some other forum I'm missing.

So yeah...

That and everything else everyone's said already.

from what i've seen so far by reading postings here is that the 1-2line answers are only given when people asking things like:

how do i make an amv?
how do i rip a dvd?

Such things are impossible to answer in a forum, thats why people make FAQs and guides.

Most of the other questions are answered properly, if someone has a problem with the guides then they can ask specific things and get more helpful answers.

I think ADs new guide will be better for Newbies because it also handles programs besides Premiere. It would also be a good thing to put up a guide like Downinpant's(sp?) Windows Movie Maker guide, that don't use things like Avisynth.

My new guide supports avs use in windows movie maker... although it's not recommended as that program is buggy enough as it is :D

AbsoluteDestiny wrote:Thing is, if you can't understand the guide then what are the chances of you being able to understand the same instructions again when someone repeats them to you on the forum? I don't see any benefit in that.

Now, I know the guides could be easier to understand (the new versions I've written hopefully will be) but there isn't THAT much difference. All the info is there, you just need to have the patience with it.
Well, people always im me on aim saying "I read and dont understand the guides, can you teach me how to rip dvd's/edit" and i just break it down simply, step by step. Alot of people are slow. I sure as hell cant start to comprehend the guides, so i have my own methods which work just as good. Someone who is new to editing most likely wont understand the guides. Its like comming from another country to the US(not knowing english)and your trying to get an interlectual conversation going. You just need baby steps, thats all. If you re-did the guides like that, I, and many others would most likely understand it.

Also, some people are just ignorant and lazy. :P

The new guides are much more step by step and there is a page where you can double check your progress so you can make sure you havent missed anything.

Hopefully that will help.

I'm going to have an open beta of the guides set up this weekend.

A simple answer to this would be that when you are making a post asking for help, mention that you've read the guide, or refer to the section you don't understand or what about is confusing to you.

First this gives some feedback to the authors of the guides on areas they may want to simplify, and second i think it will avoid the links to the guides

On another note when i point someone to a guide or FAQ on just about any site it is not an attempt to come off as better than. The fact is in most cases the writers of the guides or FAQ know more about the subject than I do, and I will most liekly screw it up if i try to paraphrase it. So when i do it ( is suspect many others as well) it is more from a desire to mixed with a bit of humilty.

Also, a lot of the questions asked are so basic, it's a wonder how they were able to find the forum and ask for help in the first place.

That said, when I first joined... or rather before I joined. I knew I was going to be getting a lot more help from reading the "guides" as opposed to a "forum" (whatever one of those things is). Maybe I just hadn't really caught on to the whole Internet discussion board thing.
There are three ways someone can get information.

They can find out for themselves
They can be shown where to get the information
They can be told the information

There's this wonderful word that's becoming more and more apparent in our everyday language. Yet no one seems to be using it. I'm talking about that whole google thing. Oh well if you want to be helping this generation become more and more useless at learning things for themselves, fine by me. I'm sure any teachers we have here will be over-the-moon.
