"Excuse me sir, I wish to register a complaint!"

Post by Rorschach » Mon Dec 01, 2003 4:24 pm

What the devil is this? I try to enter a link for my new AMV, and it says "ERROR: Link is not valid: 404 - Not Found" I know for a fact I entered the link correctly, because I copied it straight from its origin, and I've even downloaded the video to test whether it works. Many repeated tries later, I'm furiously cursing the system for telling me that a link does not work when it very clearly does and that it's not going to let me post it. Could you please turn off that [place worst imaginable unprintable expletive here] link checker that's blocking me? What business does it have preventing me from entering a link, anyway!?

If you want to try it yourself, the link is: http://iceberg.daeron.com/~rk/Robert_Pa ... Twins).avi
If you're going to have the system autoblock my link, I demand at least an explanation why.

<notice how the link isnt working here also>

Now what!? Yeesh! Not my day, it seems.

Hm... well, this board is allegedly for "bugs and cosmetic fixes" as well as suggestions. If the system is kicking out a legitimate link, I'd say that's a serious bug indeed. Honestly, though, if there really were something wrong with the link, wouldn't the system catch the error later anyway? Why do we need a system that forbids us from entering the link in the first place?

Un-blinkin'-believable; it worked! I'll say this for the site, you do get rapid service around here. Thanks, pal!

Erm, well, not in this case. Those of us fortunate enough to have space available outside the organization allow the newbie to download immediately... at least, when the system accepts the link!

I'm glad the thing finally worked, but it is rather irritating that the system audits my links like that before I even have the chance to put them in place.

Some people like to change the extention of the video to ".txt" to full the "free" server(such as Tripod).

Those links are auto-banned, as well. But since the recent upgrade allowing HTML in Video Info(Thanks, Phade!) I can link to the videos inside the video information... Sure, it says "NO" at the bottom, but atleast it's hosted.
